MFP peeps - a few questions

Do you always eat all your workout calories back? Like I ran 7 miles today and burned 600-700 calories so I eat those all back??? Seems crazy. I am not always hungry to eat them all back so that is why I ask.

Also the scale isn't budging. I don't have much to lose and need to give it more time but wondering about eating back calories and if it really works???? I have done both to eating the calories back and eating them back and still nothing. It's been 14 days and I prob need to give it aliytle more time bc I am small already but just trying to shred these last 3lbs!!!

Also any other tips or success stories? Like don't eat after 8pm, work out at night vs morning? Start your day with a big bkfast? I am all ears!!!!

Re: MFP peeps - a few questions

Do you want to be my friend and see what I'm doing? I'm greenfreak72.

I don't always eat all of them back but my gym days, I do eat more than normal. Good things. And I have a protein shake within 15 minutes of finishing my workout so that adds some.

A few weeks ago I didn't eat them back and my net calories were 280. That's really bad. But I allow one day's worth of indulgences per week so it all evens out for me in the end.

I wouldn't depend solely on the scale if you're doing any muscle building exercise. You should take measurements of:

Bust / Waist / Hips / Bicep / Thigh / Calf

All of it with your body at rest (don't flex your bicep, etc.)

I've seen a 2 pound difference on the scale in the past two weeks but lost 3 inches off my waist, 1 off my hips and a 1/2 off my bicep. It's a much more reliable indicator. As well as progress pictures. Chat Icon

Re: MFP peeps - a few questions

Also, I found this easy to use calculator for calories / carbs / fat:

http://iifym.com/iifym-calculator/

This is what I setup my goals at MFP with. Once I started tracking, I realized that my carbs were pretty high.

Re: MFP peeps - a few questions

^ Thxx for your input! I am going to find you and add you! I too have a protein shake within 20 min of working out. What kind do you have?

I def eat more low carb and high protein bc that keeps me full!

Ok and I think you are right that I may have lost inches I wish I took my measurements. My clothes feel a bit looser and my hub just said my jeans looked baggy! Also I ate back all 700 running calories this past Sunday and ate back Mondays workout calories too and guess what I lost a lb! This is the stubborn pound I lost last week and then gained back! I hope t stays off!!!

It really sounds like you're making progress, and keeping your protein higher is going to help you replace fat with muscle. Great job! Chat Icon

I use the same brand as you - Optimum Nutrition standard whey - but I have the Extreme Milk Chocolate flavor. I heard great things about Rocky Road - is it really good?

Yes its pretty good! I am going to switch to pea protein though - give that a try. They say it causes less bloat and doesn't have dairy so its better for you - or some may argue that dairy is ok. Either way just going to try it out for a bit! My hub has this big huge thing of the Rocky Road and it will take us forever to go through it lol!

Check out Vega protein then. That was what I was using before the whey but I'm lifting a lot of weights these days so I'm going to stay with the Optimum Nutrition now.

Vega has a daily supplement powder and they have a post-workout powder too. I'm not a fan of the vanilla so much but the chocolate is really good and tropical tango is REALLY sweet.
