Big ALS/xsport/Lucille Roberts
Before I got pregnant with my 3rd I was going to Lucille Roberts for the $ (cheap) it was pretty good.
Looking to possibly get back to the gym. In reality my life is insane right now with 3 kids under 3 but I know working out makes me happy and I need to make time for myself.
So that being said I don't want to spend a lot on a membership.
Where do you recommend? Do you recommend the Childcare? If so how old are your kids?
Thanks!!!!!

Re: Big ALS/xsport/Lucille Roberts
I have literally had memberships to all 3 lol. I liked the classes at Lucille but never brought me kids since they were younger at the time. Big Al's and XSport both have good child care. My kids prefer Big Als and so do I. Sometimes they even get to go to the ballpit room and play outside in the nicer weather. I pesonally love the Big Al's versatility. The crossfit section and the classes are my favorite. Also like the little indoor track. For some reason I never fell in love with XSport. Not exactly sure, just didn't feel right for me. Classes were small. They are almost 3 and almost 6.

Re: Big ALS/xsport/Lucille Roberts
I too am a member of Big Al's. I haven't used the child care yet but that was one of the reasons I signed up. I think you can pay an extra $10.00 a month for childcare, or just pay as you go something like $2.00 each visit.
It's also a very cheap membership for all that they offer. $19.99 for all the equipment and unlimited classes. I don't feel really bad if I DON'T go because it's not that much.
It's also right nearby and I feel safe there, even going before sunrise.
I hate the mall parking lot and I'm constantly hearing of muggings and such over there.
I also feel like there is more of a mixed bag of "normal" people looking to get into shape who go to Big Al's (at least at the times I go) and it's not super intimidating.
I need to get back into it so if you are looking for a buddy to check it out, send me an FM.
I can't comment on Lucille Roberts personally but have heard that it gets crowded, you need to sign up for machines and members can be territorial.
My only suggestion if you sign up for Big Al's is to consider paying cash up front for your membership. I've had some weird fees added ($10 here and there) and have heard similar from other members. You can never get a call back on this and similar with their coupons for "free training" and the like.

I belong to xsport. I really like it. Its never crowded. I guess because it is HUGE. I joined there even though its not the closest or cheapest but is open 24/7. I figured since I was barely sleeping as a new mom I could work out whenever.

Xsport has recently had proble s on the parking lot and with break ins in the locker room. If you go there, I suggest going during busier hours and not using the locker room.

Re: Big ALS/xsport/Lucille Roberts
How do you set that up if you go late at night or early in the AM?
Call ahead?
As an aside, I think issues can happen anywhere.
When I first joined Big Al's there was some girl who I am convinced was only there as a means of hooking up with the regular guys who worked out there--- who started trying to beat the shit out of one of them who was running on the treadmill next to me for not wanting to pursue the relationship with her after he probably had sex with her.
It was early in the morning and no staff were around when it happened.
I got off my treadmill and went home and called later on in the AM to file a complaint.
They knew exactly who I was talking about and said she had complaints against her before. I've seen her there since and she has this crazy look in her eyes all the time and is constantly following the guys around.

Of course it could happen anywhere. I'm not suggesting Xsport shouldn't be an option. Just warning about some recent problems. The gym itself is huge and beautiful actually.

I go to Lucille's. It's good..they do have sign ups for the cardio machines but no one really uses them. I go in the morning so it's not necessary. I have never had an issue using a machine when I needed it.
From what I hear their classes are good. I used a personal trainer but she recently left. I might try class soon but haven't yet. The classes in the AM are pretty full but it doesn't seem to be an issue finding a spot.
My DD is in school when I go but I do bring my DS. He likes the day care and I am very comfortable with the lady they have in the morning. She's great, knows all of the kids names, is CPR and first aid certified and she really plays and watches them.
My only complaint are the hours. They open at 9 which is fine during the week but on the weekends they are only open 9-1. I can't always get in for a work out on the weekend because I work Sat morning and Sunday they don't have child care (DH sometimes works).
For the price it's good, I just wish they had earlier morning hours.
