Kids first evaluation and advocacy center is in deer park, kids in action is in islip. There is also Kidz therapy in the hauppauge industrial park (I use them for PT). Where are you located?

Re: OT recommendations....
Im further out east. Thanks for the recommendations. I know this is a silly question, and should know this answer since Im special ed. teacher. My other son who is typical has awful handwriting. So how do I go about going through insurance. I cant be involved with the school (they are pi$$ing me off) Do I still need a referral from my PED?

I think NY Therapy does a handwriting course - writing without tears - our old OT from EI was teaching it. I would ask there if they take your insurance. You wouldn't need a note from your ped unless you have to get referral permission first.

You will still need a RX from the ped, in order to get therapy. I would call up your ins co and find out who is an in network provider. There are a ton of things you can do at home to improve handwriting. If your interested, just let me know... What grade is your son in? What is his teacher doing to address his handwriting issues in the classroom?

Re: OT recommendations....
I am using Island Therapies in DP for my DD. She's typical but her preschool thought she had some fine motor issues. I just called my ped and asked for a prescription. Call around and see who takes insurance. A lot of them only do EI/CPSE.
