32 Week appt-Fluid in Kidney
Hello All, i just was curious and also wanted to vent.
we are team and are very excited on getting that surprise.
last night we had our growth sono and they informed us that the baby has some extra fluid in one kidney she said not to worry it almost always turns out to be nothing and the baby just needs a sono after birth of the kidneys. i have heard of this before and im trying not to freak out but deep down i know it will turn out to be nothing. our friend just had a son with this and all is ok..which is keeping me calm..
she then continued to ask us not to read anything online since this happens to one sex over another and i was like WHY tell me that...
anyone else have this with there LO and everything turn out ok?

Re: 32 Week appt-Fluid in Kidney
I didn't personally go through this, but when my sister was pregnant with her son, they told her the same exact thing. He was born with no problems at all and continues to be a very healthy little guy.

Re: 32 Week appt-Fluid in Kidney
My DS had fluid in his kidneys. They followed up with a few ultrasounds (he was in the NICU because he was early), just to make sure it decreased. It did without intervention.

Re: 32 Week appt-Fluid in Kidney
My DD has this now. We found out at 16 weeks and it's still persistent at 27 weeks. It is a bit more common in boys, but not uncommon in girls as well so I wouldn't favor one sex over the other just because of this. I'm hoping this will resolve itself after delivery with no or minimal intervention. GL!!

Re: 32 Week appt-Fluid in Kidney
My DD had this from her 20 week sono until the end. She had an ultrasound of her kidneys in the hospital and they were completely fine and that was the end of it.

Re: 32 Week appt-Fluid in Kidney
Crashing - I had the same issue. At my 20 week anatomy scan they said DS's kidneys looked slightly enlarged. It meant one trip for a high res. sono and a bunch of extra sonos and more frequent appointments during the remainder of my pregnancy (which was nice b/c we got to see him more often.)
I think by the last week or 2 of my pregnancy they decided it was within normal range so they did not do one after he was born.
Good luck!
