Well wait.. Before I'm dismissed as being an idiot possibly...maybe I read wrong? it sounded like a non homeless person caused most (if not all) of the disruption?

That's what I was thinking as well! It sounds like this holier than thou preacher was more to blame for the confrontations.

And I do understand that they were trying to be warm, but passed out drunk across a table is unnecessary.

I honestly think the managers should've done something about the preacher since he was causing a disturbance. Yeah, he was doing something "nice" by offering to buy the homeless men something, but showboating about it completely cancels out the nice IMO.

ETA: And to all the people who feel bad for the homeless men, I do, to a point. Sometimes it just so happens that they are down on their luck or sick or whatever, but sometimes it's just because they're assholes. Yup, I said it. There is a woman near my office who sits outside on her CELL PHONE and rattles a cup with change in people's faces as they pass by. I've also seen her attack people including threatening me with her cane when she saw I was holding a cell phone in my hand because she thought I was trying to take her photo. There's also a "homeless" man who sits in my train station everyday (for years now!!) and holds out a cup. He doesn't say a word, he brings a nice fold out chair, and at the end of the day he gets into a pretty nice car and drives off to who knows where. I've tried to give food to homeless people who sneer and wave me away and say "I don't want that sh!t!" I had a homeless woman a few weeks ago, also in McDonald's, pretend to bump into my chair as she passed so she could feel my jacket and try to rob me! Then when I leapt out of my seat and told her to get her flucking hands off me, she told me I was crazy and she didn't touch me. When I was in highschool, a homeless man used to sit underneath the stairs to the subway platform and jerk off while he looked up the girl's skirts. He'd get chased off by the cops and be back a week later. Our principal, a little old NUN, used to stand by the subway in case anything happened. So, I'd like to give these people the benefit of the doubt, I really would, but it is NOT easy, especially if you live in the city and you see this crap day in and day out. And if I had my kids with me, I would've high-tailed it outta there!

To the OP, that would MOST definitely have made me uncomfortable. I do NOT like being around smelly people, homeless or not Chat Icon Chat Icon. And anyone passed out stinking of booze is not who I want to be near when trying to eat. And I would NOT want my kids around an atmosphere that, from what you described, would have made them uncomfortable also. The staff should have done something. Particularly about the drunk guy and the guy shouting.

Oh, and I live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan and see homeless people every day. Just because I may be "used to" seeing homeless people around the city does not mean I am "used to" making myself (or my family) uncomfortable in certain situations. Or dining with drunken, passed out people (at least not since my 20s) Chat Icon

I would have a huge problem with drunk homeless people hanging out in the Mcdonald's while I bring my children there to play. Yes it is cold Yes you feel bad but honestly management should of done something about this. Maybe call the police and they cops could of gotten the homeless people to a shelter. Drunk homeless people should not be hanging out at a Mcdonald's to get warm and If I was there I would of been really upset that management wasn't taking proactive steps to make sure the restaurant was a safe environment for my kids and I.

ITA. 100%.

And there are plenty of shelters available - warm shelters with beds, food, etc. I know, I personally volunteer at them quite frequently. So, the "poor man, he has no where else to go" scenario is ridiculous.

Every one can judge all they want, but no one knows how they would really act in this situation unless they were in it.

If i was by myself I'm sure I would be a little uneasy and like "WTFF" when the guy started screaming. IF I had my son in there, I would be very anxious and wanting to GTFO!

If you are ever uncomfortable in any situation, just remove yourself. Doesn't matter what the factors are. Everyone has different levels of comfort.

I guess no one here grew up in the city lol. Saw plenty of drunk homeless people in the subway, mcdonalds, everywhere. Guess it doesn't faze me. I always felt bad for them as a little girl and still do. Especially in this cold.

has nothing to do with city mouse/country mouse. We all read. Just bc you live in the city doesn't make you more passionate to the homeless.

It doesn't make people more passionate if they live in the city, it just makes them more used to it. I know that I am waaaaay less concerned about a drunk homeless person on the subway then a crazy person jumping around ranting. Not that either of them are fab to be around, it's just a matter of degree I guess.

But you seem to be the only person causing drama here, no one has attacked you or anything, people are just giving their opinions and you are getting very snippy at them!

you have 2 small kids in the equation, correct? Bc it's kinda funny that you think about yourself when comparing how scary both scenarios are.

Me? I don't have any kids. So yes, I am going to think about myself when comparing the scenarios. And even if I did have kids, a passed out drunk who isn't moving around (even if it isn't appropriate for him/her to be there) isn't going to be as problematic for me as a crazy person screaming. The former is not moving, the latter is erratic and has more of a potential for violence.

I expected this would be your response as most of us with small kids don't try to evaluate which bad situation is worse for a 2 yr old. Both are bad. I also expected afte you saying I caused drama to continue after I ended 4 boxes above.

I never said that they weren't. If you read my original post, the only thing I spoke to was that, for the most part, living in the city makes people more used to homeless people than people in the suburbs. I never said that it was right for management not to do anything about a drunk person passed out.

And if I did have kids, and was in a situation that made me uncomfortable, I would remove them from the situation, the same way I would remove myself from the situation.

Some people on here need to leave their homes once in a while and experience the real world. Yeah right it's no big deal that homeless zombies are breathing diseases all over her kids. She has the right to be there as a paying customer the others do not. Call the cops or the management should have called the cops and thrown them out...PERIOD.

ITA I hate when I look at situations in retrospect and would have done something differently. I bet you were very much taken aback by the drunk man (regardless of whether he was homeless) and screaming clown (so bizarre btw) that you most likely were in a bit of a state of shock....like, wtf is happening!!
