Cat has Dandruff
I've had cats my whole life and they were so self sufficient and needed nothing, ever and always lived a long life. These two cats that I own now have nothing but issues lol.
The girl cat started getting mats over the summer. She had three small mats on her back. My grandparents growing up had two long hair cats who used to get so matted that they had to be shaved because the cats wouldn't let my grandparents brush them. They were vicious cats lol. My cat is a short haired cat. She's almost 5 and this is the first she is getting them. She's very nervous and temperamental though, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. She pees on things when she's upset, if the litter box isn't spotless she poops on the rug next to it, doesn't like to be pet, etc.
So, two of the mats fell off on their own. The third was still there until just now. I've been brushing her daily for the past few days and it helped to loosen it and then just now she let me slowly separate it from her hair which was pretty easy to do as it was a small mat. Since I've been brushing for recently, I notice that after I brush there is a ton of dandruff on the surface of her coat. I started brushing my male cat as well and he doesn't have this. She also seems a little greasy. Should I be bathing her? I always read NOT to bathe cats because it strips them from their natural oils. She also does not go outside so there is nothing that she gets into to make her dirty.
Any suggestions?

Re: Cat has Dandruff
The food you feed the kitties has a lot to do with overall health, including dandruff and skin issues. Make sure you're using a top notch food with suitable ingredients. You'd be surprised at some of the garbage that goes in to some pet foods....

Cat has Dandruff
My oldest fat cat always has dandruff but its worse when she's stressed. And I've never heard of not bathing cats till I read it on here. I think the baths help with the shedding but ill stop now.
