Best ice skating rink to take kids?
I'd love to take my boys (4 and 2) ice skating one day this week. We took our older one to Iceland in NHP when he was about 2.5 but they had no special things to help little kids (like double bladed skates or those ice walker things) and after one lap around, he was miserable because he couldn't do anything. Are there any more kid-friendly rinks on LI (particularly Nassau)?

There is a relatively new one in Bethpage. They have the walker things I believe.

I wouldn't suggest going to Newbridge Arena. We brought DD there for her first ice skating experience (she is 2.5) and they wouldn't let us use the stabilizer/walker buckets during free skate. I was really annoyed because DD was really excited and there was no way she could do it without that assistance. We asked for and received our money back.
ETA: And bring a helmet! They don't rent them, at least they didn't at Newbridge.

Bethpage is a really nice rink! I don't know if they offer the walkers but the rink itself is very nice.

Re: Best ice skating rink to take kids?
If you can skate a bit, no real reason for the skate aids, just hold the kid's hand.
I know an ice skating instructor & she says they don't really help with having kids learn balance. She says the double blade skates make it take longer to learn.
She also recommended 30 minute max sessions for kids... So we go to the cheapest rink we can find.

I dont think any of the rinks let you rent the walkers. They are used for lessons only I believe. I've called several rinks in the past asking for them. We usually go to bethpage

Cantiague park and long beach were the only places that would let us use cones for my 3 year old to hold on to to help him skate, after about 2 sessions I was able to just hold his hand. Plus they were far less crowded during the week. Whatever you do do not use double bladed skates they make it harder for them to learn how to skate on real skates and do not hold them from behind bc the first thing they do is lean back to you
