2 part question: newborn on beach & on boat
baby #2 is coming mid march or early april (im on bed rest & docs think i can go any time after 36w) my husband and i are HUGE beach bums so we cant wait to make a beach bum out of baby #2. i have a two part question so here it goes:
1 -- i'd like to find something i can bring with us to lay the baby in on the beach... i dont want to lug the pack and play, i was thinking more of like a mini laundry basket type thing that the baby can hang out in under the umbrella. does anyone have any suggestions?
2 -- does anyone have a boat? we have a fishing boat which is the biggest thing we use to take to the beach. my husband asked me last night what my plan was for traveling with the baby on the boat & i guess i really didnt think about it, but i figured i would just hold him while sitting while we were in motion. or i thought i could sit in the cabin with him and my older son. does anyone have any experience with this? any insight would be appreciated!

1. We got something like this for the beach and we love it! We got it from BJs.
2. As for a boat....we don't have one, but our good friends do and we go out with them. They took their DD out on the boat and there was a random inspection by coast guard and because their DD was too small to wear a life vest, they got cited and told that until the child can wear a life vest, she shouldn't be on the boat. They learned their lesson and they developed a policy of no child on the boat unless they could wear a life preserver.

we actually have that exact tent... i was looking for something that could contain the baby a little more
of course we wouldnt bring the baby on the boat without a life jacket... i hadnt researched it yet, but i was assuming we could find one for infants

Just out of curiosity, how little was the baby? We had our son on our boat at 6 weeks and in a life vest. As for the original question...When we are underway I hold my son on my lap in a life vest. When anchored he was out of the life vest and either on my lap, in the bed, or I would bring the rock n play which was wonderful!!!

thanks this makes me feel better! and i had pictured myself doing exactly what you said you did!
at the earliest we would take the baby out around 8 weeks... true beach season doesnt really start till mid-june & by then he'll be over 2 months old. i just found a couple of good life jackets for infants, but would you mind sharing which one you have?

Re: 2 part question: newborn on beach & on boat
Our children were safely on our boat from about 8 weeks. They always had their infant life vest on, similar to what was posted. I always held them while underway whether in cabin or cockpit.
We brought a Pack and play to use on the boat and dock. Small tent for the beach.
It's an amazing lifestyle your children will remember and enjoy always

I was wondering the same thing. There is no "too Small" for a life vest. My DS was a winter baby but we had him out on the boat as soon as the weather got nice. He always had a life vest and we have a cabin on the boat so we were able to get out do the sun.

Re: 2 part question: newborn on beach & on boat
We live the same lifestyle.
1. We used the peapod:
I liked it because it was easy to travel with, it protected him from the sun and I could keep all the sand out by zipping him in. It was like a screen house.
2. We had him in the infant life vest. I would hold him on my lap while underway, usually sitting up with my DH as he drove.
