because I just got the call from the nurse....

...BFN Chat Icon

I was able to speak with Dr. Halfen this morning, and he agreed that we are wasting time and money doing IUIs. DHs numbers are decreasing each IUI we do. He suggests we really get the funds together because I'm at the perfect age for IVF and have a good chance on having multiple embryos. He is forwarding my file over to the director who is in charge of the NYS IVF grant, but apparently that program is "inactive" at the moment (lack of funds is my guess).

So now we have to sit down and decide what's to do. I have to take a 4 month break because my coworker is going out for maternity leave shortly, so I'll be working 60+ hour weeks. DH wants to go to a urologist, and get some help. I'm hoping this break will be the beginning of a lot of good changes- after 3 years on this infertility road, we're both just spent

Best of luck to everyone! Babydust to all of you Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I recommend your DH see a urologist ASAP. It usually takes at least a month to get an appt, and it will take a minimum of 3 months to see any change, once treatment begins. And testing can take a few weeks or longer. MFI is a long process.

And I strongly urge him to see a urologist who specializes in MFI.

I'm so sorry. This whole process is so frustrating. Hopefully the break an your DH going to a specialist will be the answer you need.

So sorry! But I second this! Dr Girardi is wonderful. My husband hates going to the doc and even gave her the thumbs up. Good luck!

Does your DH take any supplements? I know a few ladies who's DHs count and quality increased with the help of the right vitamins. Worth looking into.

ITA with this. As someone who has had to struggle with SEVERE MFI, your best bet is for your DH to see a urologist who specializes in MFI ASAP. To see results from MFI, takes months. My DH had to take 2 different drugs and had to have surgery. The entire process took 10+ months.

Ugh I'm sorry. I went through the same thing myself going through IF treatments, which is why i always waited until a day before beta to test after that. Hopefully your next cycle is the one!!

See DH is all on board to see one. He's contacted a few local urologist and have set up appts in April (can't believe their booked up that far in advance Chat Icon), but I am getting conflicting opinions. Dr. Halfen said that it wouldn't matter in our situation, because he just needs 1 sperm for every mature egg I make. And since DH has sperm and we're doing IVF, it wouldn't be beneficial.

One question I plan on asking the urologists, is I've read online that men take Clomid for sperm issues. Anyone have first hand experience with this? Has it improved the quality and quantity? What's the use of it?

DH took Clomid and it helped him a little. But I will say - the 1 sperm for 1 egg is not entirely true. If so, then every IVF would work. We used ICSI and even so, there were issues with DH's sperm that caused the embryos to stop progressing. So your RE is only half right, and I again, strongly urge your husband to see an MFI urologist.
