Disney Princess Half Marathon....I did it!

So as promised I wanted to give you all an update. Last weekend I ran the Disney Princess Half Marathon. It was such an amazing experience. Disney has three events over the course of the weekend. A 5K on Friday, a 10K on Saturday, and the half marathon on Sunday. This was the first year they offered the "Glass Slipper Challenge" which was for running both the 10K and half. You received an additional shirt and medal for completing it. I didn't sign up for that event and I so regret not doing it but at the time I wasn't sure I would be able to complete the half at all. So originally I signed up only for the half. A few months ago I decided to run the 5K as well, that one with my son.

So on Friday I ran the 5K, which was not timed at all, with my son. It was so much fun. We stopped for every character picture and had a great time. On Sunday I ran the Half marathon. I had to be up at 2:30 am Chat Icon to arrive at the event by 4:00. Once there you are greeted by thousands of people and a DJ. Eventually Cinderella and Prince Charming arrive. The whole morning is a lot of fun. By 5:30 they start the race. There were 16 corrals of people set up based on you submitted speed and each corral was released about 3 minutes apart. The day was hot and humid but overcast and misty so it was bearable. Throughout the course they have entertainment and character stops. I only stopped for a few things as the lines get very long and you do have to run within a 16 minute mile. They also have a crazy amount of port potties and water stops which was fantastic. The runners themselves for the most part were the most supportive group of women, yes it was 90% women, I have ever had the pleasure to run with.

In the end 25,250 runners entered the race. 19,294 people finished. I came in 10,621 out of all the women, 1,333 out of 2,440 in my age division. Even though my son said "way to be average Mom" (you have to love teenagers lol) I am very proud of my results. At the beginning of this journey I said this was my one and done half marathon, I lied. I am already planning my trip for next year.

I would be happy to answer any other questions and will try to post some pictures this week. I know this post is already really long and I could go on forever LOL.

Sounds so fun & I hope someday to do it.

Do you mind me asking...When did you arrive & leave?
Did you make a vacation out of it, or just for the race?
Did you stay at a WDW resort?

I don't mind at all. I arrived on Tuesday morning with my family. We went to Epcot on Tuesday, magic kingdom on Wednesday, Thursday morning was the expo and then we went back to Epcot, Friday morning was the 5k and then we went to Hollywood studios, Saturday was a half day at animal kingdom, Sunday was the half marathon and then we went to magic kingdom. Monday morning we were on a plane home. We stayed at port Orleans riverside. I would highly recommend staying at one if their resorts. They provide transportation to all the events, otherwise the traffic is crazy. I would have preferred to spend time at the parks after the race rather than before but the kids had off of school the week leading up to the race so we did the parks first.

Yes the whole experience was amazing. I would highly recommend everyone run a disney race. There were some negatives of course. It is very early in the morning, at times the course narrows so much it is impossible to run at all, and the change in temperatures can be difficult to adjust to. That being said, I would do it again in a minute. The good far outweighs the bad. I am planning on doing it again next year. You are all welcome to join me. :)

Congrats! We were there too. Many runners stayed at my hotel. I want to run this event next year! I am considering signing up for the One in November...I think it's the Dine and Dash!

The November race is the wine and dine. I hear that is an amazing race. I actually really wanted that to be my next race but I am going on a work conference the month before and can't justify two trips so close together. Chat Icon

Congrats! I will be doing this next year and I am so excited! How was the expo? I will be flying in the day before the race so I will miss that. Did you find that you can get merchandise after the expo?
Did you have to tell the hotel you are running the race when you book it? I will be staying at the Boardwalk.
TIA

Just a heads up you have to go to the expo to pick up your race items(bib, t-shirt, etc.). There is no pick up on race day. So I would keep that in mind.

The expo itself was good, and very crowded! They have everything you could possibly want. In terms of limited items, commemorative items you really have to be there the first day or two to get them. They will keep selling the race items for the week following the race but a lot of items sell out quickly.

All the hotels are host hotels for the princess marathon so there is no need to worry about which hotel to stay at. You do not need to inform the hotel at all. Transportation is provided from all hotels. Just make sure to find out where it is from. It is on regular coach buses not the Disney buses and not from the regular bus stops.

Congratulations!!! I ran too- my first time. I never could have imagined what a spectacle it would be!! The fireworks for every start corral! I had a blast. Good for you for managing to do the 5k as well!! I was also there with my kids- we flew down Wednesday and left Monday morning. I cant wait to do it again. My df and I have been talking about how much fun it would be to do without kids someday- and spend a couple of days afterwards lounging in the sun and going to the spa!

Congratulations to you as well! I really wanted to do the wine and dine in November kid free but financially I couldn't justify it this year. Maybe next year. I will definitely be doing the princess again next year. Hopefully I'll see you there :)
