12 yr old with a wheelchair - summer programs>

I have a 12 year old with Cerebral Palsy...she has gone to a summer program for special needs kids for 5 years now but none of the other kids are in wheelchairs - she is perfectly normal in all areas except she cannot walk.....do any of you have any info on summer programs or camps that might be an option for her? she does horseback riding but I really want her to have something to look forward to over the summer - she misses so much....any info? or ideas? TIA

I can recommend Camp Anchor (Long Beach area)- this may not be what you are looking for (extreme range of abilities/ disabilities)

- it is pricy but I highly recommend. But again- I would take a look around because of the wide variety of abilities/ disabilities

For horseback riding HorseAbility is a wonderful program- they are outstanding! :)

I would also look into the Town of Oyster Bay Gap program- that program always has rave reviews from children and families :) Its an awesome recreation program!

Thanks for the info - I appreciate it all. My DD has been going to GAP for the past few years but she is the only child like her who cannot walk and she has a 1 on 1 aide that she hangs with (who she loves and is like a big sister to her) but she is also very isolated from the other kids bc of this so I was hoping to find a place for her where she could be with other kids with similar issues - its just really hard to find any that focus on wheelchair friendly issues - I am going to check Horseability - we currently go to shine therapy but have been unable to go bc of the bad weather - so maybe Horse ability will be better - Thanks!

Southampton Fresh Air home does a camp for kids with physical disabilities. might be too far though

Easter Seals does a day camp on Long Island. Camp Oakhust in NJ is a sleep away camp in NJ. I can also recommend Southampton Fresh Air Home and HorseAbility. Does your child like sports? I know of a lot of wheelchair sports teams on the Island.
