If you don't mind me asking, why are you being induced?
I'm not going to lie, my induction was terrible but I know many who have been induced who did not go through what I went through.
Long story short - I had low fluid, went to the hospital Monday late afternoon. It took 2 rounds of Cervadil, 2 failed Foley balloon attempts, lots of pitocin, and an epi until DD was born Thursday early afternoon. The worst part was the Foley balloon catheter. By far.

I was induced for low fluid.
Got to LIJ at 1 pm, Cervadil at 7pm. She was born at 6:39 the next morning.
It could not have gone any smoother.

I was induced and thankfully all went very smooth. I was never even in pain. I checked in Friday morning at 7am. Started iv with fluids. Given pitocin at 9:40am and had dd naturally at 11:37pm.

Re: being induced?
I'm being induced due to Gestational Diabetes. Dr doesn't want me going over 39 weeks.
Do you have a choice in which drugs you want or how you want it done or do they do what they want?

You technically don't have a choice, but i was very, very vocal. Partly bc I was terrified. My dr wanted yo use cytotec. I didn't question it until the night before I was supposed to check into the hospital and it scared the bejesus out of me. I refused to be given that drug. I wanted the cervadil and pitocin like everyone else I know had.
But my "cervix was favorable" and didn't need the cervadil and they also administer that over night and I was there at 7am. I wanted pitocin bc I was more familiar with that.
Drama ensued, I felt bullied, my dr thought I was questioning his expertise, but I never wavered in what I felt comfortable with.

I was induced for failing to progress. Check out my birth story. The inductions both failed.

being induced?
I was induced for pre-eclampsia...it didn't work because despite the amount of blood pressure medicine I was given, my pressure continued to rise and I ended up with an emergency c-section...in all honesty, you show up, they give you an IV and you have meds through that to get you going..at one point, they broke my water (not painful, just a pop and very wet..like constantly peeing on yourself..way fun) and then it was just checking in on progress, vitals, etc...

i was also induced for GD. i went in on a monday and started with cervidil. i didn't dilate (maybe a cm or so) and the baby was still high. the next morning the doctor let me eat and shower and then gave me another round of cervidil. still that did nothing as far as dilation and contractions. that night, my water broke and they said i should be going into labor soon. well, i went to sleep and nothing happened. on wed morning the doctor asked me if i wanted to keep trying or go in for a c-secion. i was SO exhausted and my son was still very high in my pelvis so i chose the c-section.
i didn't have a choice of drugs and really the cervidil was fine. the worst part was when they inserted it but otherwise i felt nothing. you can ask your dr ahead of time what drugs he/she plans on using.
good luck!

Re: being induced?
I'm being induced Monday and was wondering the same thing. My doctor said that the Cervadil and Pitocin tend to work well if you are already past due and your cervix has started to dilate/soften and you've begun to efface. He said if your still generally hard in there and not "ripe" it'll make it more difficult. Hope he's right, lol.

It depends i think. I wasnt dilated or soft or efaced at all. I was 39w6d when they inserted the Cervadil, contractions started with in 4hrs, and she was born about 7hrs after contractions started.

Same thing happened with me for DC #1. More than likely it will be the same case for DC #2.
I went into the hospital on Wed night btw 7-8pm and my OB met me there and inserted the cervadil. Slightly uncomfortable at insertion, but I could get up and walk around, use the bathroom when needed, etc.
In the early AM, the OB attempted an internal exam and it hurt quite a bit, so they started the Pitocin. Then the contractions started - nearly 30-45 seconds apart as they adjusted the levels and I could not do Lamaze through it. The nurses told me I had to keep up my energy for labor and suggested they could give me something to sleep and relax. After 2 hours, I finally relented. I slept for about 3-4 hours, when I woke up when the meds wore off, I called the nurse in because I thought I had peed myself, but my water had broken and my OB came in to do an internal and stated I was 8 cm dilated. The nurses asked if I wanted an epidural - I said yes, the anesthesiologist came in and inserted it and within an hour I was fully dilated and the nurses stated I could start pushing as soon as I was ready. We started after DH went down to get a bite to eat from the café and 3 hours later, DD was born.
I won't lie - the pain was horrible until I took the drugs, but that is the effect of Pitossin. As soon as I took the drugs, I calmed down and was able to rest and have the energy to push.
I was not able to eat anything after my bedtime snack on Wednesday and I was connected to an IV drip.

being induced?
my sister had a failed induction and ended up with a c-section after 2 days Everyone is different though but it's good to know what to expect in case things do not go smoothly. At least that's how I feel, when you know what to expect you're not surprised and you won't panic.

I was induced at a little over 40 weeks. It was the easiest thing ever. Went in at 8. Started medicine (pitocin) at 830am. Had DS at 730pm with very little pain.

Re: being induced?
I was induced with pitocin only. They had to keep increasing the amount of pitocin bc it really wasn't working for awhile. But once those contractions kicked in, the pain was sudden and intense, which I hear is typical of pitocin induced contractions. I highly recommend the epidural! After I got it, I felt zero pain and was even able to sleep for a few hours before it was time to push. Start to finish, it was about 8 hours with an hour of pushing. Good luck! The end result will make it all worthwhile!
