High BP

Anyone suffer from high blood pressure towards the end of their pregnancy?

Mine's been pretty high in the past couple of weeks, and is kind of skyrocketing now (almost 36 weeks). No protein in urine or other signs of PreE yet but I'm getting really freaked out.

Dr is pulling me out of work as of today at least, but he said there is not much more that can be done to prevent PreE if it escalates to this...

Are they putting you on meds? I am on labetalol post pregnancy which can help lower bp. I did not have preE or any other signs.

My high risk said he will prob put me on meds this week, if the pressure is this high. He said they won't do much to prevent PreE but he will feel better that we are doing something.

Re: High BP

I delivered 6 weeks early due to pre-eclampsia / high blood pressure. The only symptom I had leading up to it was major swelling, but my BP was fine at all of my appointments. One night I started having difficulty breathing and was having chest pains and turns out it was pre-eclampsia and I had to deliver to cure it. Monitor your BP closely, avoid salty foods, drink LOTS of water, sit with your legs/feet elevated and try taking epsom salt baths. If you start having any types of chest pains, call your doc immediately.

I was put on Labetalol immediately after DD was born and now she is 13 weeks and I'm still on meds to try to stabilize my bp.

I had high bp I think around 38 weeks. I did the 24 hour urine which was clear. I just had to take it easy, drink lots of water, etc. I would have issues with my vision, hard to describe but just strange things in my vision and some headaches. It would usually go away if I layed down for a while. No meds, they said as long as the lower number stayed under 100 they would just watch it. I went to 42 weeks with no issues and my bp stabilized by the end. It was fine when I delivered but rose again when DD was about a week old. Again, they watched it and eventually it went back to normal (by 6 weeks pp).

High BP

I developed high BP in the beginning of my pregnancy and have been on labetalol since. It stabilized my BP until I was 37w. I went to L&D with high BP and was sent home after a few hours since it was fine every time they checked it. At 38w4d, I had high BP again and low fluid so I was sent to the hospital for an induction. My BP was slightly higher than normal throughout my 3 day induction and since I delivered 4w ago, it's been higher than normal. My dosage has since increased.

I have absolutely no side effects at all from the labetalol.

I developed high bp around week 30. It never escalated to pre-e. My dr closely monitored me. He gave me NST 2x a week for the last three weeks of my pregnancy. He wanted me to be induced at 39 weeks because it was rising and I was swelling up bad and a trace of protein in urine. I was induced at 10am on Friday 2/14. I wound up having a c section on 2/15 at 130am but not because of bp, but because of epidural not working properly.

High BP

I developed high BP and preterm labor at 32 weeks with my first dd...I went on labetalol and had to collect urine every weekend to test for protein and went to the ob once a week and high risk once a week..at 37 weeks, my bp was high, proteins were high, and I ended up with pre-e...tried being induced, but even with IV meds for the BP, wouldn't come down so I had an emergency c-section at 37 weeks..on the table, my bp then was 200/120 or something insane..I know it's hard, but relax, take the meds if they give them to you, and see if it can maintain you so you can hold onto the baby and let them cook...watch salt, watch for swelling and drink lots of water..I was drinking about 4 or more 32 oz waters a day when I was on bedrest for this..

this is my second pregnancy and beforehand, was being watched by my internist/cardiologist..I had one tiny spike in bp early on, went on labetalol, and am 38 weeks today..knock on wood, my bp was good this pregnancy..if you end up on labetalol, your ob will not be able to monitor you with it after you give birth, so you will need a cardiologist to wean you off since you aren't just supposed to stop it..I was on a decent dose when I gave birth and was off by the time my DD was like 6 months, maybe before...just keep an eye on headaches, swelling, etc...you can FM if you want also

Re: High BP

Thanks for the feedback! Started working from home today and I deff feel better just lunging at home and pacing myself. Been monitoring all weekend and I'm still in the 150/90-100 range, but I think that the electronic machine is not very accurate... We'll see what the dr says tomorrow. I'll deff inquire about the Labetalol.

Re: High BP

At 33 weeks (with twins) my BP was clocked at 140/100 -- I had to stay overnight in antepartum for a 24 hour urine collection. They found protein in my urine, and my BP ranged from 120 - 160/80-100 during that time.

My doctor stated my protein was 290 and 300 is what classified pre-e.

They gave me two rounds of steroids for the babies lung development in the case they did end up wanting to deliver early.

I got two more weeks in and at weekly NST scans, my BP was always taken, and I always submitted a urine sample.

At 35 weeks, my BP at it's highest was 166/100 and I was once again sent to antepartum, urine collection, and ended up staying there for the duration of my pregnancy. I was diagnosed as pre-e.

Delivered my beautiful twins at 36.3 weeks via c-section (was always going that route anyway).

Your doctor should continue to monitor you accordingly, and I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to continue going to each appointment.

Re: High BP

Both of my pregnancies I had high BP towards the end. My first they put me on meds in December (wasn't due until March) and ended up having an emergency C section on 2/11.
This pregnancy my BP was fine up until the last 3 weeks. After almost every DR appt, I'd have to go over to Good Sam L&D to have my BP monitored. My last appointment was on 1/24 and it was a little high. He sent me home with a BP monitor and I had to take it ever 2 hours and call him right away if it got higher. It was pretty much the same the rest of that day, the next day was lower but got back up at night. Sunday it was higher. I called at like 4pm (we had a birthday party that we were at earlier) and he sent me to L&D. They ended up doing another emergency C section.
I did not have preeclampsia for either pregnancy though.
