Anatomy/Gender
Does anyone know the actual statistics for how accurate the anatomy scan is at predicting gender? I remember when I was pg with DS and they said boy, I was excited and had a strong feeling all along that he was a boy, but still I kept worrying if they could be wrong. I ended up having two more scans later on in the pregnancy and he was clearly a boy so I wasn't as concerned.
We find out our new baby's gender in less than two weeks and the worrying is starting again! We would be THRILLED with either, but I know that once I'm told one gender and start bonding with baby as my son or daughter, I will be very disappointed if I give birth to the opposite.
I've googled the statistics for accuracy and couldn't find them anywhere. Has anyone else had any luck with this! TIA!

Re: Anatomy/Gender
I think a lot of it depends on how cooperative baby is. With my DS we found out the gender at 16 weeks and while they never say 100% they told us they were as sure as they could be. They also gave us a pic of the goods, and showed us in 3D. I had no doubt in my mind he was a boy, and they were right. In some cases they wont get a good view and then they arent as sure.

Right that's very true. With my DS, at first he was all folded up in a corner of my uterus and the tech couldn't see anything. She was kind enough to tell me to do some stretches, lunges, etc. to get baby to move. Sure enough, he moved right into position and we were lucky enough to see! I'm so excited to find out again - it was the highlight of my first pg. But I'm also worried about getting too excited just in case they can't see or aren't sure!

We found out gender at 20 weeks...They pointed exactly where they knew he was 100% boy.
No idea on statistics though.

I'm probably just psyching myself out, worrying that we won't find out, since I'm so excited to find out. Lol.

Anatomy/Gender
I have heard its more common for them to say girl and then have a boy come out than the other way around. His little thing could be hiding during the scan and not in full view causing the tech to think girl. I read its less likely for them to say boy and then for it to be a girl because when they say boy they actually see something there. Just a thought!
At our anatomy scan we got a great view of the money shot and he is all boy! I am not worried about any surprises at his birth.

Yes I've heard that about girls, too. My mom keeps saying "aren't you gonna be worried if they say girl that maybe they just didn't see anything?" Thanks, Mom! Lol.

Re: Anatomy/Gender
It's probably pretty accurate but I have heard stories of them being wrong. Very rare though. My cousin kids are 12 and 13 so this is a awhile ago but they told her that her son was a boy by sono tech then the OB looked and said no it's a girl and that she has never been wrong. Then she was told with her daughter she was for sure a boy. Have birth to a big suprise. Had to scramble for names. Sono machines are a lot better now.

We found out girl at 16 weeks , and since then have had 6 sono techs/doctors say girl, so I have no doubt. Plus I felt girl from day 1, so I was happy I was right lol. My mom was told boy 20 years ago and ended up with a girl, but that was 20 years ago

THANK YOU GIRLS!!! And to those of you who mentioned the inaccuracies, I think you're correct in saying that it most likely had to do with the age of the machines back then. Technology wasn't what it is today.

When I was pg with DS in 2012, the sono had a strong guess at 12 weeks and she turned out to be right when we went for our anatomy scan . This time around, the tech had a guess again at our NT scan so we will see if it is confirmed in a week and a half!

Re: Anatomy/Gender
20 week scan they will either show you a penis or ovaries if they dont do that then their machine is outdated and i would choose a better practice

I've only had a boy so I didn't know they could see ovaries. I've never even heard this before! I don't want to switch practices bc I love them so hopefully something is seen at my scan lol.

Yes I believe it's almost 100% but I do not qualify as I'm not high risk and I'm under the age requirement. I will be 28 on Wednesday and I believe you need to be 35+.

Bahahah!! This was me with DS. Was told guess at NT scan at 12 weeks, then at anatomy scan at 19. Had another scan at 27 weeks, . Then growth sono at 35 weeks, . After all those scans I was feeling really good about it and he was obviously a boy. But at the hospital when he was about to be born, I did wonder for a moment omg what if?!?! Lol!
