Is there a writer in the house?
I'm hunting for freelance writing jobs. I don't expect to make a living off of this (I'm a HS guidance counselor) but I love to write and extra money is always a good thing. I already write for an online parenting magazine and a blog.
I've checked out content mills like Textbroker and Demand Media Studios, and they pay slave wages. Are there any freelance writing jobs that offer anything slightly higher? Are there any reputable sites where I can search for opportunities?

Re: Is there a writer in the house?
You're smart to avoid the content mills- they suck.
One site that's not too bad is Constant Content. The only drawback is that you write articles to sell on spec, so if no one buys them you don't get paid. But you can set your own prices and the people who use the site are willing to pay more than $3 an article.
Since you've been working in the parenting niche I would pitch to other parenting blogs. Also, if you really want to make a go of this, I would set up a web site. This would allow you to feature your published pieces in one place so potential clients can see what you've done. You can also write and monetize your own blog.
Good luck!
