Re: 1st bday
Do what you feel most comfortable with. Both my boys are born in warm weather. DS1 was end of May and DS2 early July. I did their parties at home and invited family and close friends. Had it catered, put up a tent and hired entertainment for DS1 first bday. For DS2 we had a different house with a pool so just had music playing, had people swim and I also set aside a baby pool for the LO's.
I've been to a hall first birthday since it was during the winter time. Some people do big and some don't. Up to you as long as you don't stress yourself out. It's about celebrating your LO's first year!

Re: 1st bday
you have to do what you are most comfortable with. i was of the mindset that DD wont remember it and didnt want to spend a lot of money for that reason. i would have loved to have it at home, but was living in a 1 bedroom apt at the time so that was not feasible. we invited family and close friends and had it at a local restaurant. for our second, we plan on having a bbq in our house (as we just moved)

1st bday
We are doing about 30 people at home. My guest list consists of friends and family who have kids. You don't have a kid you aren't invited. It was my cut off.

1st bday
It's whatever you and your dh want. Some just celebrate with a cake and the three of them, others just immediate family, others extended family and others a full blown party.
Some have space and the want to do it at their house, others out.
All depends on your preference and budget.
We are going all out and having the party at a yacht club. That's just how we choose to do it.

Re: 1st bday
for dd1 we did a big party. Well she was May and it was easy to do outside. We did it my FIL's backyard and Catered. DH's family is an automatic 30 people.then add in friends and family maybe had about 50 people.
DD2's party was last week. We did it at home and had about 20 people. We cooked. It was brunch. We live about 1hr 15 mins from LI so people had tot ravel and some said no. which was totally fine with me since it's march and it rained

Re: 1st bday
I agree. Do what makes you happy. We agreed to gave a big party just for her 1st birthday and because we didn't have a big christening. We had about 50 people at a restaurant with close friends and family and kids also.

Re: 1st bday
We are doing a big party, but we like to have parties anyway and her birthday falls near Memorial Day weekend. We are doing it at our house and plan to invite about 80 people (I have a big family with lots of kids), praying not everyone shows up!! We will most likely not do as big of a party for her future birthdays.

1st bday
Do what makes you happy. I had wanted to just do something at home but since we have so much family that we wanted to invite we ended up doing it at a restaurant. In the end I was very happy with how it turned out. I'm glad that so many of our friends and family came to celebrate DD's first year. But it was more than we wanted to spend for a party so next year we'll keep it small and just do something at home with immediate family.

1st bday
I don't do parties. We had grandparents and our siblings over for pizza and cake. We then take some money and put it away for DS. IMO the money is better spent on his future than a party.

1st bday
We decided to go all out for the first birthday (hall, friends and family, etc). For future parties, they will be much smaller (at home).

Re: 1st bday
Agree with the others - do what you are comfortable with. We would have loved to have had it at home, but are living in a 2 bedroom apt so that was out of the question. We were going to then do it at my parents house but the guest list got a little too big, so we had it in a private room at a local restaurant. Turned out to be fabulous. For DS's 2nd birthday I'd love to do it at home, since we'll have a house by then, but we might just do a My Gym kind of place since he'll enjoy that more...and then we don't have to worry about cleaning!

Re: 1st bday
We decided to do just immediate family cause 1) winter baby 2) he would never remember the big party 3) we are putting in a pool and could not see spending the money on a party he would never remember.
we did immediate family, approx 20 people, at the house and ordered the food.
We didn't do a big christening either, for the same reason, minus the pool reason. We are not that religious, so it seemed silly also.
I would rather do the big parties when he is older and can really enjoy them!

Re: 1st bday
It's all personal preference of course, but I find big birthday parties to be a huge waste of money and more importantly to me time (Ain't nobody got time for that! LOL) We had immediate family over for pizza and cake.

Do what you feel is comfortable... I was all for having immediate family at the house for pizza & cake, but DH wanted the big party. We had it at a restaurant because I was not having 70 people in my house.

we went on vacation instead of having a big party. We did something small at the house with immediate family to celebrate and that was it.

Re: 1st bday
Its whatever you want. I'd definitely so something, even a small family party at home.
We did a hall with like 80 ppl. Their 2nd birthday will be at a kiddie place and much more simple.

1st bday
We did it at home. I feel like everything is so over the top these days with first birthdays. We did it at home and had it catered so I didn't have to worry about cooking...
