Question about NYC 30 credits beyond Master's
I'm hoping someone here will know the answer.
During my Master's program, I took a literacy class as an elective for 3 credits. When I went back for my Literacy certification, that class was a required class for my certification. My university transferred the class & applied an additional 3 credits for it towards my Lit certification. So essentially, I got 6 credits for this class. It shows up on my transcript for both my Master's and Lit certification twice, with 3 credits each time.
My school doesn't think this will count, since the course went counted for my Master's as well. I feel like it should, since I got 6 credits for it instead of the 3. This would be the last 3 credits I need for the 30, so I'm hoping it will count.
TIA.

why should they count a class you took once twice?
Making sure you have required classes for certification is not the same thing as taking classes for pay raises IMO

But you only took the class once, and it was a 3 credit course. If it is a course that went towards your Masters degree credit count, then I'm 99.9% sure that your district will NOT give you salary credit for it. You're trying to double dip.

So I get why the one class I questioned couldn't be counted.
But I'm curious as to why you are saying that the certification courses shouldn't count towards the 30 credits salary increase. It was an additional certification that I went for after my initial two certifications and my Master's, and all classes that I took beyond my Master's credits.

Classes for cert n raise are the same. My 30 above was a result of my SBL admin license

No what I am saying is that the one class you took happened to fulfill a requirement for 2 certifications. Great, two birds one stone.
However it can not count as 6 out of 30 credits when it is only worth 3 out of 30 credits.

I kind of agree with the post above but I also feel like when you submit your paperwork, it might go unnoticed...
Let us know how it turns out- good luck!
And if you wind up needing the extra 3, you could always take those kdsi courses online. I think $250 for 3 credits
