How Do You Cook?

This may sound terrible but I would put the tv on for an hour. They would sit in their high chair or swing. I work full time so I wasn't home for their naps. DH would get home around 7 so it was just me. I was the only one who was home early enough to make dinner. They are 3 and 5 now and its a million times easier. They play with each other. TV was the only thing that worked for me. I know some people are anti-tv before a particular age but I had to do what I had to do.

This. I cook simple things that take 20-30 minutes so I minimize the exposure but my DD loves to climb up on my legs and I didn't feel comfortable holding knives and dealing with boiling water knowing she was at my feet. TV does the job for now. I'm not cooking 5 star meals and its a lot of repeats week to week but at least it's less expensive than ordering out all the time. On occasion ill get lucky because she loves to pull her millions of book out and "read" them. It's a huge mess but sometimes ill get the 20 minutes I need.

Re: How Do You Cook?

My DS will be 8 months in a week so a similar age... I put him in his high chair, play music, let him entertain himself with his sippy cup... I don't make anything too extravagant but I am able to cook!

I found it easiest to prep things earlier in the day while she was either easier to entertain or napping. Chopping veggies, marinating meat, cooking up a big batch of taco meat or tomato sauce made dinner time easier. I also make bigger meals and freeze leftovers to pull out later. I enjoy cooking a lot but keeping it down to a few nights a week makes things much easier. The slow cooker is great and not that the weather's getting nice grilling might be a great option too!

Re: How Do You Cook?

I wasn't much of a cook before DS was born. We were also living with my parents at the time while we waited to close on our house and then renovations so my mom cooked for us. When we finally moved into our house I started looking on Pinterest for recipes. During the summer my DH will grill a lot so that helps me out. During the winter I used the crockpot a lot. for the meat or chicken and then I would make a few quick sides-veggies, rice, etc. I would put DS in his bouncy seat when he was younger. Then his highchair and now that he is 25 months usually I will put on an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and I can usually make a meal or finish up a meal before Mickey is over.

How Do You Cook?

Before DD I was always a big into prepping meals since the last thing I wanted to do was eat really late after getting home from work. Since DD I've been a little more creative and doing much larger batches of freezer meals and meal planning. I put all this together on my days off. It makes it so much easier since I don't have to think about it and I can just pop it in the oven (or DH) or throw it in the crockpot in the morning. This really allows us to spend more time together as a family during the week, when time is limited.
