Cat Help

I am writing this with a heavy heart. I have two 5 year old female cats who have been with us since they were 6 months old. We rescued them from my aunts backyard and they have all their shots and are spayed. The are very social for being formerly feral.

My problem is that I now have a 10 month old who is severely allergic to the cats. I have held off on the decision to find a new home for the cats as long as I could. However, the pediatrician has now advised us that we must find relinquish the cats for the health of my daughter. It breaks my heart to have to do this but our home is just not big enough to give hem separate space.

Any help or hope anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. I've contacted so many no kill shelters but everyone only takes kittens and I dontknow anyone that would take them in Chat Icon

So sorry you are dealing with this. You need to take pictures of the cats, make a flier with all their info and put up fliers in supermarkets, libraries, pet stores and even local school bulletin boards. List on the flier that your child is allergic and the cats are well behaved and must stay together. There are a good amount of people who still want to adopt adult cats. My husband and I adopted a 6 year old adult came from an LIFer 5 years ago. Good Luck to you.

Have you contacted rescue groups? Bobbi & The Strays, Courageous Cats, and The Long Island Cat Project are the first that come to mind.

Also...a couple of tips:

Watch for shelters that claim to be no-kill. Many of them are not.

Don't advertise your pets on Craigslist for your safety and theirs.

You could call Save A Pet and ask if you could put an ad up with them online (you would need to house the cats still though).

They were going to do this for us when we found a dog and thought we were going to adopt him out (we ended up keeping him, but the plan above was what they allowed us to do).

I've contacted all no kill shelters and rescue groups I could find in the area and they all had the same response..... We are not taking in older cats. Two organizations offered to post their info on their webpage so gingers crossed
