UPDATE with review: Tres Jolie or Jon Megaris Salon in Huntington?

I'm hoping to find a salon in the Huntington Village area that's great with cuts, color and possibly keratin treatments.

Tres Jolie and the Jon Megaris Salon seem to have good reviews on Yelp. Just wondering if anybody here has any first hand experience with them?

Anybody have experience with Tres Jolie or Jon Megaris Salon in Huntington?

My mom has been getting her hair cut at Jon megaris for years, and so does my sister. I did when I lived on LI.

It's a bit pricey, but they do a good job, I used Alyssa, she did some very nice subtle highlights for me last summer.

My sister us faith- loves her cuts, but my sister doesn't get color so I have no idea if she does that.

UPDATE with review: Tres Jolie or Jon Megaris Salon in Huntington?

I hate getting my hair done. Period. Only two stylists have ever done a great job on my hair where I felt good about myself when leaving the salon. Unfortunately both those women stopped doing hair: one moved to FL and the other left to start a family. As a result I would try a salon here or there, but my hair was cut no more than twice a year because I was unhappy with their work. Same could be said of their coloring or their colorist's work, so I just colored my own hair at home.

The only place that did a great job were the girls in Queens (Top Point or Hair IB) who straightened my hair.

I had been dreaming of a place and stylist where/who could: cut my hair, color it, straightening treatments and blow outs...all in one place AND nearby! (A girl can dream, can't she? Chat Icon )

So I ended up just biting the bullet and calling to make an appointment at Tres Jolie for a cut & blow-out (they had the most positive reviews on Yelp...both public & hidden.) At my request, they were able to get me in the same day with "Liz."

I was greeted at the door as soon as I walked in and it turned out to be Liz. Chat Icon

I explained what I was looking for and she showed me exactly what she was cutting/doing before actually doing it. Thankfully, she did not take any liberties with my hair. Chat Icon I ended up leaving the salon LOVING my hair!!!! Rarely do I feel good leaving a salon. I usually can't wait to get home and take a shower so I can blow my hair out again. Chat Icon Not this time.

While I was there, I inquired about other services (highlights, single process coloring, straightening, etc.) I trusted her knowledge and suggestions so I bit the bullet again and made an appointment to have my hair glazed & straightened the following week.

Showed up at 1pm for my appointment with Liz and I was greeted at the door by one of the stylists. They took my coat and offered me tea, coffee or wine and then I was escorted to the coloring stations. I explained to Liz that I preferred golden undertones as opposed to red or violet and then told her my concerns with my hair coming out too dark. She listened and showed me the hair sample of what I had requested and what she thought would work on my hair color.

After my coloring, my hair was washed and I was sent off to Liz's station for the Lasio Keratin Straightening. Liz wanted to do the straightening right after the glaze to help seal the color in. Being that she trained at the Lasio salon/studio, I decided to trust her knowledge & experience. It paid off!!!! I'm super happy with the results!

Also wanted to add that I like nice salons (a crystal chandelier will draw me in every time Chat Icon ), but I hate pretentiousness from both staff and clients. I was amazed at how varied their clientele is! There was an elderly women (80s+) in there with her husband waiting for her (it was sweet), fashionable/trendy women, men and "moms" like me (super casual.) Chat Icon

I go to salon 44 and while I only get cuts I know several people who get color and are really happy! I use Danielle.

My cut & blow-out was $55.

Then the glaze & keratin straightening was $285 total. I believe the straightening is $250.

Come the end of March/beginning of April, Liz is going to do partial caramel highlights on me. I'm curious to see how that comes out. Chat Icon

Liz used an Oribe product on my hair for the blowout that did an awesome job giving me volume and holding the wave/flip at the ends. I definitely need to buy that the next time I'm there because I haven't been able to recreate that volume/flip without it.

I should add...my hair isn't anything trendy or overly fashionable, but yet I've always had a hard time finding a stylist who would hear me out. A lot of them did what they wanted to do...and I look like a$s with purple hair. Chat Icon I just want my hair to look natural & shiny...with no greys. Chat Icon

I tried to take a "selfie," but I suck at them. Chat Icon Plus I look like a$s from shoveling. Chat Icon But I must admit, my hair still looks decent considering the weather it was in. Chat Icon

I swear, I can't win when it comes to hair salons and stylists. Chat Icon I called to schedule another appointment with Liz and I was informed she's no longer working at the salon. Chat Icon

So I'm scheduled with Ani tomorrow. Wish me luck...and I hope my initial review doesn't change dramatically. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Can you ask someone at the salon (maybe the shampoo-ist) where Liz went? Ask in a casual way and I am sure they will share.

The stylist I was using is not at a salon, but is now doing private work like weddings, communions, photo shoots, etc..

I ended up just going to another stylist (Ani) at the salon and he did a great job with the color & cut, so I plan to continue using him...unless he leaves the salon too. Chat Icon My DH was all over me when I returned home, so whatever Ani did, it worked. Chat Icon Chat Icon I have to say though, Ani asked questions about my hair and listened to what I liked & wanted out of a cut & style. He gave me exactly what I was looking for and I felt great walking out of the salon. Chat Icon

My hair style isn't anything complicated, but some stylists seem to have difficulty giving me the cut I ask for. Chat Icon

I feel male stylists seem to listen better than female stylists. In the past I have had good haircuts from females but I always had better ones from males.
