Summer Camp
Does anyone have any information on a great camp for children with special needs? I'm looking to enroll my son (he is on the spectrum but also has ADHD and a mild case of Cerebral palsy). He went to Camp Horseability for a few years but were looking for something that is longer than just 1 week. Sleep away camp is NOT an option at this point in time! We're interested in day camp only. Nassau or Suffolk are both feasible. Thank you!!!!

Gersh Academy offers a camp at West Hills Day Camp. It looks like a lot of fun. But is pretty expensive.

Re: Summer Camp
Thank you--yes, we looked at Gersch but their sessions conflicted with his summer school schedule. It did look like a really nice summer program.

I have heard really good things about the Y in Plainview. They have a special needs summer camp program.

The two that I have a ton of friends going to are the Y in Plainview and Gersch. Personally I will be sending DD to Gersch as I liked their inclusion program a little better. If you are looking to send your DC somewhere after the ESY, it is going to be a little harder as most camps end the week after or don't accept kids for only the last weeks.

Thank you for the info--yes, the time frame we're looking for is limiting but I am going to look into the Y in Plainview. I'm not familiar with this program but with 2 recommendations, I will certainly check it out. Thanks again!

Re: Summer Camp
Another option is Flying Point, they run a camp at the end of the Summer for a week for kids on the spectrum. It's inexpensive. It's held at the Southampton Fresh Air home, so it's a hike to go daily. I always contemplate signing my son up, but it would be a killer drive.

Also Camp Paquatuck in Center Moriches I hear offers a day option (only sleepover options come up on the site though).

I looked into the Y in Plainview. I'm going to visit it next week. Yes, Southampton is quite a hike. Any specific comments known about Y in Plainview? I am particularly cautious about where I send my child as he is mostly nonverbal, so I don't get any feedback about his day.

I have a least 6 friends that send their kids to the Y in Plainview and they love it. All the children are non-verbal.

Thank you! That is a great endorsement. I looked at other places (Kehilla is 1) and they sound great but getting terrible reviews when digging deeper.
