Nutritionist appt tonight

I'm at my wits end with trying to get this stupid IVF weight off (at least until the next cycle).

So I have an appt with a nutritionist, who says she has experience with the trifecta: Endo, hypothyroidism and IVF. I hope she's able to come up with an effective plan that doesn't involve me starving myself. (I get very cranky when I'm hungry . . . lol)

Good luck! I gave in to the IVF weight and bought a size up...

During my 3 month break I worked out a lot which helped.

Fingers crossed you get a good plan.

The appointment went well. My diet is already pretty clean, but we're going to try to change things up a bit to see if that will jump start my metabolism.

The nutritionist is a proponent of hydrophilic foods -- oats, chia seeds, citrus fruits, berries, certain veggies. So, I'm going to try to incorporate more of those foods into each meal and snack. Also, she said that dairy can be very difficult to digest (even if you're not lactose intolerant), so for at least the first few weeks, I'm not going to have dairy. Greek yogurt is an exception to that, though.

To help my thyroid, she suggested incorporating seaweed into my diet. She said those seaweed chips are basically a "free" food, so they make a good snack. But, she said that raw cruciferous veggies are not good for an underactive thyroid. I'd never heard that before. They're fine if they're cooked, though.

She was very understanding about the effect that all of the meds and underlying medical conditions have on metabolism and weight. I also liked that she wasn't proposing an extreme starvation diet or trying to sell me a ton of products or supplements.

I didn't like her scale, though . . . it registered a higher weight than my scale at home. LOL I'll go back next week to see how things are going and in the meantime, I can check in with her by email with questions, problems, etc.

LOL . . . I'll just make up for that by having more cherries!

This is so interesting. I've never heard that raw vegetables are advised against in someone with an underactive thyroid. You would think the opposite. Hmm, maybe I'll lay off my raw cauliflower and broccoli for a while.
