Re: Would you dislike getting a surprise sprinkle?
If she expressed that she didn't want one, I wouldn't do it.
You could always do a nice brunch with her friends, just to celebrate.

Re: Would you dislike getting a surprise sprinkle?
Agree with everyone that because she said she doesn't want one (and you know she would be uncomfortable because of the etiquette thing), don't throw one. Instead, have a casual/informal get together with your group of friends to celebrate her. Take her out to lunch or brunch and celebrate the happy occasion. Don't make it into a party with invites and gifts etc.

Would you dislike getting a surprise sprinkle?
I think it's really sweet of you to want to do something but if you know she's really against it I would respect her wishes. However, I do think just planning a nice brunch or some kind of get together either before or after she delivers to celebrate this event and child is a very nice gesture. If you want to get her something special I would do that but just keep it low key and just between your families.

Re: Would you dislike getting a surprise sprinkle?
I recently attended a surprise sprinkle for a mom friend and it was so much fun. Another mom held a brunch at her apartment. The mom to be was having her third and she already had one of each but it was nice because we are all relatively new friends through school and didnt know each other back when we were having our first dc. We all brought little gifts, like an outfit for db or gc for the mom. But most of all, it was an excuse to have a party and spend time with girlfriends, and who doesn't like that?
If you don't think she would like to be surprised, just tell her that you want to have a little get-together to celebrate her and the new baby.

I love the sprinkle idea, providing it is tasteful and not as big as a first time shower. I say plan it. I'm sure she will love and appreciate it!

im sure if its just your group of friends and it isnt a huge production, she will be so grateful. You're all NEW friends in a new city, finding that an an older age is NOT easy. finding that and friends that want to throw you a sprinkle? one lucky woman!

Would you dislike getting a surprise sprinkle?
Instead of a sprinkle, you could make it like a ladies' tea or sip and see kind of party to honor her, so it;s not so baby showerish

If someone said they don't want one, I wouldn't plan one.
I would ask if they were ok if we had a brunch with close friends to celebrate in lieu of one. Maybe get a group gift & keep in low key.
I agree.
