When to buy furniture?
When did you buy furniture when you were purchasing a house? I want a few things custom made (such as bedrooms), I was told it could take 60 days. Should I do this before closing or wait till closing? It just makes it difficult sleeping with no bed.

When to buy furniture?
We didn't get anything custom made, but we didn't order anything until after we closed. We needed to do some work immediately and slept in the basement on an air mattress for about 2 weeks. It's also nice to live in the house a little before deciding what type of furniture to purchase for various areas, really get to know how everything looks. That said, we had a few pieces from our previous apt such as a small couch and chair and dining room furniture.

When to buy furniture?
We didn't do anything until closing. Too much can happen. Deals fall apart all the time.
Do you have a mattress? I assume you are sleeping on something now. I would just move what you have until the new items are delivered.

We got rid a lot of things to start new. When we close I will be about 8 months pregnant so I don't know if sleeping on the floor on a mattress I don't know how that will be.

I have my bed now, but I am not taking it. I am giving it to my BIL - he's leaving for college.

No big purchases before closing!!! You want to show every dollar you have. And if suddenly thousands of dollars start getting spent, you'll have to explain it all (with letters and receipts) to your mortgage lender. Your bills between mortgage commitment and closing should be stable, no big fluctuations or that's a red flag to your lender.
ETA: Sounds like your BIL should look for a new bed. You should take yours if you're planning on moving before your new furniture could be ready.

Yeah, I agree. You come first, you'll be uber preggo and CANNOT go w/out a bed. DEF don't make a CUSTOM purchase prior to closing. Keep your bed, your BIL can sleep on an air mattress for a few weeks if need be.
