Re: seriously...PSEG
How is this ok? Is there anything that can be done? Should we be writing to congressmen, legislatures, etc?

Re: seriously...PSEG
Not sure where everybody is getting these figures from that PSEG is charging way more. They really aren't.
My latest bill has .0787 for delivery per kWH and .095479 for power charge and .006246 for Energy and Renewables. Thats a total of bout 18 cents per kWH.
I looked at a LIPA bill from about a year ago and it shows the same .0797 for delivery, .090737 for power and .006246 for renewable. So the total per kWH last year is about 17 cents per kWH.
If you people are seeing big spikes in your bill, you are using more electric! The rates are very close. Long island has typically been around 20 cents per kWH for a while now. There is nothing to write to congressmen about.

Actually, yes, they are.
My usage has NOT changed since last year, actually my usage has NOT changed in YEARS if you go back and look at my bills and my balanced billing just jumped from $165/month to well over $200. That is a bunch of bull$hit.
The SECOND the switch from LIPA was made I saw an INSTANT increase in my bill. That is NOT usage, that's them jacking everyone's bill up for NO reason. I've spoken to many others (outside of LIF) and they have seen the same thing.
I didn't all of a sudden use a ton more electric out of nowhere.......especially in the winter/spring before AC's go on. There is ZERO explanation for this jump in my bill. I'm so irritated.

I have to say I haven't seen a jump at all. My bill shows about 12 cents a day increase, that's about $3.60 a month difference for us.

Balanced billing means nothing and has ZERO to do with the rates. Balanced billing only leads to confusion that you describe. This is why I never balance bill ANYTHING. How do you know it wasn't the balanced billing that was screwed up, or that they were under billing you.
The bottom line is you look at the three items on your bill: Delivery System Charge Power Supply Charge Effenciency & Renewables Charge
There will be a figure for all three of those items per kWH. Add up all three. It will equal just under 20 cents per kWH. If it doesn't, then post a screenshot of that portion of your bill on here.
Then you take the number of kWH you use per month and you multiply it by .20 and you got your bill. It's actually pretty straight forward.

I have had balanced billing for 3 years and have never seen it so high, and there has been no change in usage...

I compared last year at this time to the bill I just got. I looked at the actual usage. I used more last year march/April but my total charges were less than this year march/April so I'd say that yes there is a difference.

I'm sorry, but I want to compare apples to apples. I want KwH x rate per kilowat hour. I don't average it and divide.
I compared ELEVEN months of usage side by side with very little change. If anything, this year was less. However, my bill is almost double what it was.
Power supply charge is ********, and we didn't approve of it. As a public utility, they're taking advantage of the public by adding to our bill the burden of their problems. Lack of choice and prior mismanagement of funds really has put a dent into our budget- and our trust of legislators like Cuomo who promised reform.
This isn't reform, this is highway robbery.

My balanced billing hasn't changed in years. If you compare my usage from this year to last it has NOT increased therefore, my balanced billing should not have taken a sudden jump out of nowhere when the amount billed hasn't changed in forever.
I don't need to do all of those calculations to see my overall bill has gone up NOT from an increase in usage. A quick look at my bills shows my usage has not increased yet my bills have gone up. Clearly something is up.

Re: seriously...PSEG
Just google PSEG bill increase and you'll hit upon articles in Newsday, News 12, etc. PSEG even mentions the increase in "Power Supply Charge" on their OWN website.
They are increasing your bills and it's not because of any increase in your usage. It's bull$hit and it should not be allowed.
Here is one mention of it.

Well compared to the rest of the world, the US is pretty cheap .
I don't even want to talk about what I pay per kWh.
And I use alternate energy, LED lights, and all my appliances are A+++ efficiency.
You guys are lucky!

Re: seriously...PSEG
I haven't noticed an increase in electric, but my gas jumped up out of the blue over $100 a month.
And no offense, but I really don't care what others pay in the rest of the world.
I'm on a budget here, and having these huge unexpected jumps in basic services is not easy to make up for.
Things need to now be cut elsewhere.
Out of other basic needs areas.

We just purchased my parents home. I don't know if it's because we are new customers or not but pseg and keyspan both had big increases over what my parents bill was! Over $70 extra for pseg and $90 for keyspan. We haven't changed the usage at all!

We went on balanced billing in December after being in our home a year. Started at $140 per month. We are now up to $279 a month with absolutely no change in usage. It has only been 6 months and there is no overage in our account. Where is it going?

This! They sold us PSEG like it was the answer to every problem and I believe we were told NO increases the first year or something along those lines, from Cuomo. This is really outrageous that some people have had such huge spikes in their bill.

Re: seriously...PSEG
I also am using less electric than last year, I am on balanced budget as well. My usage is less than what they are charging me, and my bill is up 60 dollars a month..It is a joke and something def. needs to be done. I dont see how long island can be sustainable for middles class people anymore, Taxes are out of control, electric is out of control, the roads are a mess, the schools are cramming kids in classes increasing in more teacher to student ratio..It is really getting bad.

My bill is DEFINITELY more each month, since PSEG took over and if anything, we have been using LESS electricity since we have been away a lot. It's insane.
