I like Feline Pine, but it is compressed pine pellets. I pick out the poop, let the pee break down the pellets.
I never get a pee or ammonia smell, and it lasts about 10 days to 2 weeks.
I tried Yesterday's News once, and got such a terrible ammonia smell after a few days.

Honestly BJ's own brand clumps the hardest and works the best for us.
We also LOVE this stuff. Sprinkle it in every time you scoop or change the liter.
It smells amazing and really absorbs orders.
