Clever way to ask for gift cards for 1st Birthday
I was wondering if anyone had any cute sayings that I could put in the invitation to ask for gift cards or cash.

Re: Clever way to ask for gift cards for 1st Birthday
My honest opinion, I don't think there is ANY way to ask for gift cards or cash without offending someone or sounding completely tacky.
Also, there are many people who don't like to give either because they:
A) don't want someone to know what they spent
OR
B) like to bring a gift and can usually get something nice with sales, coupons, etc.
I wouldn't put that on an invite no matter how cute the saying is, I don't think it's good etiquette. Sorry.

Agree.
Return the gifts you don't want for credit or exchange them for something you do want.
Plus, don't you want your child to experience the excitement of unwrapping all the gifts? That's half the fun!

Clever way to ask for gift cards for 1st Birthday
I agree with the others. I wouldn't even ask for gift cards. I have gotten better about returning things I know we don't need or won't use and using the credit for what we do need.

Clever way to ask for gift cards for 1st Birthday
I don't think there is EVER, for ANY occasion, a nice way to ask for ANY gift.

Please, please don't ask for gift cards or cash on an invite. It's just a bad idea. If you are super close with someone (Mom, BFF, etc) and they ask you what your baby needs tell them.
It's just tacky and makes the person you're inviting feel bad. You can always return what you don't want/need for store credit.

There is no clever way to ask for gift cards or cash- honestly you should never ask for a gift- it looks tacky- if you are asked what the child needs then you are being given an opportunity to ask-you could say something like we are saving to by DC xyz.

Yah I agree with the masses. Its a "gift". Totally up to the person who is giving it.

Re: Clever way to ask for gift cards for 1st Birthday
Thanks girls! You're right! I would just love to get this little guy a swing set, but I'll mention that to the Grannies and hope they spread the word. You know what its like with all those returns! My little men are so blessed and spoiled rotten already being the only grandchildren! THanks again!
Happy Memorial Day. Summer is here!

Clever way to ask for gift cards for 1st Birthday
Depends who you are inviting. I wouldn't put it on the invite but verbally mention it. Dh's godson's bday is next week and they flat out told us gift cards but that's our relationship. We usually do cash after 1 since kids get so much crap. I tell close friends and family the same and no one thinks its tacky so that's how we all do birthdays. They get actual gifts from friends and not close family.

Re: Clever way to ask for gift cards for 1st Birthday
I would ask the ones you are close to (family), but in person especially if they ask.
I usually ask family & I appreciate guidance (from "clothes please" to school related stuff to science stuff to a piece of furniture).
As for the rest of people, probably tacky.
