Moms of 3...or more.
How did you know you wanted a third?? Besides financially (which I don't think any parent is ever prepared for), what were some of your other hesitations?? We have 2 beautiful girls and DH keeps joking (only half) abt going for a 3rd. I know it has a lot to do with him wanting a boy but now I keep going back and forth on whether I do want to try or not. I always thought I would be done at 2 no matter what the sex.

Moms of 3...or more.
I always thought i would be 2 and done but then i had twins. A boy and a girl. Most people would say to me that was perfect, now you're done. I never wanted more than 2 kids. But after the twins were born I wanted to have another one. I wanted the twins to not only have each other but a younger sibling. When we decided to go for #3 I came off birth control to regulate myself before even trying. We wanted to wait about 6 months after coming off birth control to try. I got pregnant a few weeks after coming off the pill. Aside form financially my biggest hesitation about wanting the third was the pregnancy i had with the twins. I had a terrible pregnancy and did not want to go through that again. I didn't have a great pregnancy with #3 but it was not as bad as the twin pregnancy. After my DS was born I tied my tubes. DH and I talked about it and if pregnancy was not so rough on me (i'm considered high risk due to thrombophilia) we would have gone for a fourth before closing shop.

Re: Moms of 3...or more.
It was virtually non-negotiable in our marriage. I wanted three kids and that was that...easy! I simply ALWAYS wanted a bigger family. Sure, my DH only really wanted two (despite the fact that we had ...he didn't care the genders, but admitted later he was thrilled when we had after that). If time--and other factors--were on my side, I'd even go for four, but regardless, he is done done done!

Re: Moms of 3...or more.
I too always wanted a big family. But, I was a bit older when we got married, and then had unexplained secondary infertility after DD#1. So #2 came 3 years later. She ended up with many problems, which ultimately ended up being due to a chromosomal abnormality (not related to my age). We sort of decided that we were done after her, because she required so much care, because it had taken several years to get her sort of "settled" in her therapies and things, and because I was given a job opportunity that would work best if we didn't have another infant. That was in February, 2013. We decided we were content with our family of four. And then BAM...I was pregnant in March! Total shock...but oh so happy!
And like PP stated, if time were on my side, I would actually have liked 4 children. But now we have to be done.

Re: Moms of 3...or more.
I have three boys and one has mild special needs. I felt like I had to be done because of that, but truthfully I was heartbroken at the prospect of not having any more. I tried everything to feel done (even getting a tummy tuck!) but the truth is I knew in my heart I wasn't done. Someone once said to me family size isn't always a rational decision. Some may feel you "should" be done after 2, or three, or of you have a boy and a girl, or if you had tough pregnancies, or a tough kid, but the truth is you don't have listen to anyone. I realized no one is consulting me about their family size, no one is justifying their financial situation to me...so I decided to hell with the raised eyebrows, I'm going for it. My parents had three and we did not have a lot of money in the early years. But we made do. And I wouldn't trade my siblings for summer camp or private school, or fancy toys, or even my own bedroom :) I wouldn't trade either of them for anything!

I always wanted 3. We decided that we would wait and see how we felt after 2, if finances and things felt in order we would try. I'm expecting my 3rd this summer

Re: Moms of 3...or more.
We both come from a family of 3 siblings and as soon as we got serious while dating we agreed we wanted three children. After our second, we had one of each sex. I was still set on 3. DH was honestly ok with stopping at that point. I still felt in my heart that our family wasn't complete and two wasn't enough for us. He came around pretty quickly because baby 3 came less then two years after our 2nd.
