Birthday gift for MIL
My MIL will be 60 in September but I wanted to start thinking of her gift so I don't have to rush. She lives 3 hours away from us so she does not get to see my DS as much as she would like. We usually don't do birthday gifts but I figure 60 is a big one! Any ideas? She has 3 granddaughters who live close to her, but my son is her only grandson. I don't know if I should do a gift from just me, Dh and DS or ask my SIL to be involved and get something from all her grandkids? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would say if you have strong rapport with your SIL, talk about a group gift. I tend to stay away from group gifts because I feel like they get messy.
Does your MIL like to vacation? What are her hobbies and interests? Try to build a gift based around that.

Re: Birthday gift for MIL
How about doing a photo collage of her grandchildren? I know you said that your SIL lives far away, but maybe you could each take your children for pictures, scan them into the computer, and then make a canvas using snapfish or shutterfly?

Birthday gift for MIL
if i was a grandma with any gradkids that are not too close, i would love a digital frame that can be updated by the moms... especially, if she's not on FB or tech savvy.
