Huntington vs. Winthrop
Since Plainview closed their maternity ward I'm stuck having to decide between Huntington and Winthrop. I had my first two at NYHQ (Booth Memorial) and had my 3rd at Plainview. I got spoiled by the last delivery...loved having my own room, everyone was nice and attentive since it was a small ward, loved the breakfast buffet and the one time steak dinner for two. I don't want my last labor and delivery stay to stink so which would you recommend when it comes to staff, room situation even with roommate (cleanliness, bathroom situation, etc), and overall experience? I know it's only 3 days I'll be there but I find it hard to sleep in hospitals so I'd rather it not drag horribly. Thanks in advance for any opinions/comments.

Huntington vs. Winthrop
I delivered at Huntington and loved my experience there. There weren't any private rooms available, but I was in a double room without a roommate so I ended up with a bigger room, an actual bed for dh and I didn't have to pay for a private room. It was very, very quiet there and the staff was very attentive. The only difference in having a double room and not private is that the shower was in the hallway. Not a big deal at all.
As for Winthrop. I don't have firsthand experience but everyone I know that delivered there wasn't happy with there experience. It's very, very crowded and the staff isn't very attentive from what my friends told me. Also, they force you to keep your dc in room. I wanted that anyway, but at least I has the option to send dd to the nursery if I ever wanted to, but again I didn't.

Huntington vs. Winthrop
I delivered at Winthrop. They didn't force me to keep my son in my room (they actually suggested bringing him to th nursery when I had gotten sick for rest). I had a private room, it was brand new. Idk how I got one, I think my dr requested it. The nurses were mostly nice, except for one that was super pushy about breast feeding. The thing I didn't like was that they were very stingy with supplies. I had to practically beg for formula.

Huntington vs. Winthrop
I live right near huntington hospital but when we decided to TTC I opted to switch OB's to deliver at Winthrop because Winthrop has a NICU which huntington does not. That was honestly my decoding factor, if the baby need the NICU I rather be in the same hospital as the baby then having him transferred and me left behind. My SIL delivered both her babies at Winthrop and had a great experience with both.

Re: Huntington vs. Winthrop
I had a really good experience at Winthrop. Didn't push me to breastfeed or keep the baby in the room. The nurse even told me she wouldn't bother me overnight because she knew how tired I was after giving birth. I was happy with my choice of giving birth there.

Re: Huntington vs. Winthrop
I also delivered at Winthrop and they didn't force me to keep the baby in the room overnight. they suggested that they take the baby so I can get rest and they just brought her to me when it was time for a feeding. I felt guilty but it was a great decision
I had a great experience there.

Re: Huntington vs. Winthrop
I delivered in Winthrop in December and had a pretty good experience. Most of my nurses were great, especially my L&D nurses (which was super important since I was in L&D for 3 days due to my high risk status). When I was finally transferred to a regular room it was a double b/c there weren't any private rooms available. I had it to myself for one night, but got a roommate the second night. Unfortunately the roommate and her family didn't speak a word of english, so it was a little awkward. But other than that it was fine. My DD was in the NICU so they obviously didn't force rooming in for me and were VERY helpful with breastfeeding/pumping. Since I had a c-section I couldn't move well, so they would come get the milk and bring it to the NICU whenever I asked. I had lots of visitors when I finally moved to a regular room (they would only let DH in the L&D room) and we were able to bring our parents down to the NICU to meet DD.
Speaking of the NICU, my DD ended up staying there for 39 days. The nurses and neonatal team were WONDERFUL. I couldn't have asked for anyone better to take care of my little girl. They kept us well informed about everything each day and were extremely sensitive to our situation.

Re: Huntington vs. Winthrop
I delivered my second DS at Huntington and had a great experience. All the nurses (except one) were great. Very attentive and got me whatever I needed. I did not have a private room, but I also did not have a roommate my entire stay (4 days), so that worked out great! It was very quiet there.
My only complaint would be the shared shower. It's just a little inconvenient, but not that big a deal, especially if you have a shorter stay than I did.

Thank you for all the replies. I will consider all and hopefully will make the right decision in the end. Still have months to go so will see how everything goes from here until I preregister at one of the hospitals.

FYI Huntington most certainly has a NICU just not a level 3 NICU.
