Sidewalk repair - new question

Is it the towns responsibility or the homeowners to repair the sidewalk?
We are town of Hempstead if that matters

Eta- would you file a complaint about a piece of sidewalk that is extremely dangerous? It's on a main path that is unavoidable if people want to cross a main road? My mother had almost tripped twice and I watched another person almost fall today. It's not a slight crack or damage, it's almost one foot above level ground. The minor cracks etc I would never complain about.

You are. The town can do it, but they will send you a bill for it.

Sidewalk repair - new question

Years ago sidewalk was broken at my uncle's house. Someone tripped and got hurt. They sued him. Homeowner is responsible for sidewalk repairs.

Is this in front of a home or business? Or is it on public property?
