East Meadow
DH and I are looking into East Meadow and neither one of us is very familiar with the area. It looks nice and the school ratings are good but we don't know anyone who lives in the area or has kids in the district.
Please let me know how the neighborhoods are, is there any area we should stay away from?
How are the schools?
Please feel free to fm me as well.
Thanks so much!

Re: East Meadow
I am based in N. Bellmore, and I am very familiar with East Meadow. I actually have a sale closing there next week.
It's a big school district. A lot of my clients like the areas zones for Barnum Woods and Parkway elementary. Taxes are a bit more reasonable than some surrounding towns like Levittown and N. Bellmore, N. Merrick.
It's a convenient area near parkways, shopping, parks (Eisenhower, Speno), town pool on Prospect. There's no train station for EM, though, if that matters (depending on where you live, you could go out of Bellmore, Merrick, or Hicksville). Also, if you are set on gas in the house, East Meadow is probably not the place for you (it's almost all oil).
FYI part of Westbury and a small pocket of Levittown are zoned for EM schools.
Let me know if I can help with your search! (516) 587-7618 or [email protected].

Same. LOTS of young families in the area. I think everyone on my street has a baby or a school-age child. Close to shopping and the LIRR (I take the Merrick train when I have to go into Manhattan. It's 40 mins). Home prices and taxes are reasonable comparatively.
My kids aren't in the schools yet, but my neighbors have been very happy. The district is large but it's split into two high schools, both of which are medium-sized (1100ish each). The only drawback is that kindergarten is currently half-day, which stinks for me as a FTWM.

That's me! Our house is in the Parkway section. We liked EM because it's centrally located, has good schools and the taxes were reasonable for the houses you could find. We didn't restrict our search to EM only, but that's where we found the perfect house for us, in our price range.
For us, the only area in EM we really wanted to stay away from was north of Hempstead Turnpike for various reasons. I believe that area is also not zoned for EMHS which is where we wanted to be.

Will you have kids in the school? I am on the PTA board if you need any assistance.

East Meadow
I live in east meadow - the Barnum woods section. Just moved a few months ago and have two little ones. So far I love the area. It's near the highways and the Merrick lirr is just a few miles down the road. I've heard good things about the schools (specifically the elementary and middle school - heard mix reviews on the high school) but my kids are only 16 months and 1 month so I don't have personal experience with the schools. There are a lot of families and kids on our block and everyone is so friendly. I'm glad we over here. Our second choice in neighborhoods was north bellmore. Feel free to fm if you want more info
