fast unexplained weight gain - any btdt?
Hey everyone. I haven't been around this board for awhile. Hope everyone's doing well! I wanted to check in about something weird that happened, to get other people's take. It's a little long, sorry.
So here's the situation:
First of all, I lost about 20 pounds a little over a year ago and have maintained the weight, dropping another 5 pounds in the last 6 months.
Then, a few weeks ago, I had guests visiting for 6 days. While they were here, I was eating slightly more than usual. Nothing crazy, but I was having a couple desserts that I wouldn't normally have and making slightly less healthy choices than I would have normally made.
When I weighed myself after they left, I had gained 7 pounds! In 6 days.
I tend to burn about 2300 calories a day if I'm fairly active (which I was that week, probably more than usual). That means that I would have had to have eaten 5,800 calories every day for those 6 days.
How is that even possible? I've tracked days where I've literally binged nonstop, and I've never gotten over 3000 calories.
And now, it's been 2 weeks, I've gone back to eating normally, and I'm still 7 pounds up. I can see the change in my stomach; it's expanded and I feel bloated.
Anyone know what could be going on? Has this happened to anyone?

This has happened to me with July 4th I gained about 6 granted it's a holiday weekend however I went back to strict diet and exercise and haven't lost a pound yet. I think for me at least it's the food build up bloating and retaining water from the salt and then there's that demon- alcohol. I would say keep doing what your doing but maybe a cleanse too like a 1 or 2 day cleanse just to reset I did it after Christmas when I had the same trouble and it helped so much! Good luck

I agree with PP.
When I eat lots of carb heavy foods, or fried and salty and processed, I get like this.
I've recently tried to focus on eating lots of salads and protein and someone who hasn't seen me in awhile commented that I dropped weight.
It also can have to do with your period.
I'm not on BC and no matter what I now get fat and bloated around that time every month.....

Not necessarily. You were eating foods your body is not used to processing - I'm going to assume they were higher in processed sugar and sodium than your regular diet. This would cause your body to retain water, therefor causing the extreme weight gain. Good news a couple weeks of clean eating and flushing with water - I mean drinking like, a ton of water - should get rid of most if not all that weight.
The fact that you feel/look bloated definitely indicates some water retention. Try drinking an insane amount of water for a few days and see what happens. I dropped 4lbs in one day doing this because I had become so under hydrated my body was holding on to every drop of water it could!
