Would Glassdoor reviews influence applying to certain companies?

Just curious. I feel that maybe people are more likely to post negative than positive experiences, but would you apply to a place with a lower rating?

No.

Especially if I needed a job.

I don't trust people who write on those sites.

I left a crazy company, but my boss was always very fair and respectable with me.

He also still gives me contract work from time to time and I have a wonderful relationship with some of the sane people that are still there.

One of them even called me to give me the heads up about important info the other day.

I also would totally recommend them to someone looking to gain experience and more contacts to eventually move on.

Lastly, everyone's threshold is different at work. Some people are offended by having to do basic work so they make it out to be bigger than it is....


ETA: I've also heard negative about my current employer, but generally it's from either a.) people who've never worked elsewhere and don't realize how good they have it or b.) people who are just complainers by nature

I totally agree. I'm sure about my company that there are tons of negative reviews. I work non profit so while the pay isn't that of corporate they do compensate with awesome benefits. Also work has changed and our roles have changed and some people can't deal with the changes. Not for nothing but I listen to the complaints in my department and they all want 6 figures and to do nothing.... so they do negatively review the agency when they shouldn't

I would apply but def factor it in to my decision if I was offered a job.

Not really.

I have been at my current job for a year now. I looked on Glassdoor when I was applying and when i was offered the job and I was terrified to accept it based on glassdoor reviews but I did because I liked the hiring manager. Turns out to be the best job I have had.

With that being said, there are many many different positions within my company so I am sure someone working in one of our stores as an hourly employee has different feedback than a salaried corporate employee (where I am).
