Registering with school district-???
My case coordinator called me to tell me that I have to register my DD with the school district by September-- she's only 2.3 years old and has been receiving EI for about a month. The next iifsp meeting is in November. She was trying to explain to me that the therapists she works with will evaluate her but the district will give her a psych Ed eval.... I don't understand--they will use these results to determine continuation of EI Services or is this to determine what she gets in pre-k?? Just seems way early for that.

Kids transition to the school district at 3 years old. EI will no longer provide the services the school will. We had our evils done for the school in June. The psych evaluation replaces the special ed teacher that was probably a part of your initial EI eval. It will determine what services your child will receive when they turn 3. We actually got considerably more services from the school. Their evaluation was more thorough and revealed more areas of concern.

Re: Registering with school district-???
What above poster said.
It can seem overwhelming at first but it's not that complicated.
I think they look for a recent physical and then it's just basically your contact info and concerns from what I recall.
Just make sure you stay on top of them.
And take the secretaries with a grain of salt when they start trying to diagnose and tell you what services you're going to receive.
I had that experience a few times when I called up.

Registering with school district-???
My son will be 3 in Oct 2014. I had to register at school by April 2014. They then contacted me to schedule OT, Psych & Social evaul. PT was done by therapist. The school then had meeting with me when all evaluations were done to see if services would continue. We were approved. I choose to start PT/OT together & we begin first week of Sept. We will then transition early & EI will end. ** If NOt approved for CPSE then the services will continue until child turns 3yrs. I hope this helps

Re: Registering with school district-???
Just echoing what the pp's said, yest its the early transition. Its great they are having you move on it now- sometimes agencies don't inform parents until the 11th hour.
For me, I have a December baby, so we already did the meeting and he is starting Leeway in September, at 2 years 7 months. I think the earlier the better to transition from in home EI to 'school' but thats just me. The socialization component is sorely missing when your child is receiving, say, 18 hours of in home therapy a week.
Good luck, and advocate for yourself!
