Question re: After school programs and bus schedules in east meadow
DH and I are looking at buying a house in Nassau and seem to like East Meadow. Could anyone tell me anything about the before and after school programs? How much are they? I ran across one site, SCOPE, and it said $500 a month! Also, what is the bussing schedule like? I have one child in each level of school....elem., middle and high. DH and I will still be working in the city and are trying to get a grasp on how we would work out our daily schedules. Thanks in advance!!

Re: Question re: After school programs and bus schedules in east meadow
I am in Westbury, East meadow schools. North of Hempstead tok. There is a certain distance you have to be from the school to get a bus. Not 100% sure on the number but I believe Elementary is 1.0 miles, middle school 1.5 and high school over 1.5 miles. We get a bus to elementary our bus comes at about 845 am and returns about 3:40
and middle school was about 7:30 pick up and 2:30 drop off. Never had bus for High school.
In terms of Scope best bet would be to call and get the info.

Question re: After school programs and bus schedules in east meadow
Thank you for your response. Because of our work schedules and commute, I guess we would have to look into the before and afterschool programs. Is Scope the only one offered or are there others?

Re: Question re: After school programs and bus schedules in east meadow
No just scope anything else you would have to have the transported there for example there is Big chief in east meadow its basically a preschool/daycare but they do after school pick up for many of the kindergarteners because we still have half day kindergarten but I'm not sure what age they would go to and that would probably be a lot more money.

Re: Question re: After school programs and bus schedules in east meadow
SCOPE runs about $500 a month if you do both before and after. If you call, you should also ask where the SCOPE prgrams are. For some reason, I think that not every elementary campus has the program but I'm not 100% sure.
The schools all have different start times. The high school starts really early, elementary doesn't start until about 9:15, not sure what time middle school starts.

Re: Question re: After school programs and bus schedules in east meadow
SCOPE can be done by days (10 days a month) or full months depending on your needs. It's only in the elementary schools (most of them).
http://www.scopeonline.us/childcare.php
Be sure to call and see if they have room, sometimes there is a wait list
EM has 5 EM schools, 2 middle schools and 2 high schools. Be sure to check which schools you will be going to.
Elementary schools start at 9:14 (usually let kids in at 8:55) Bussing is .5 miles * there is also a random day off in December (usually the second Wednesday for parent teacher conferences)
Middle schools start at 8:14 Bussing starts at 1 mile there are late busses * First day is 1/2 day or a few hrs, kids will have mid terms and finals
HS starts at 7:14 bussing starts at 1.5 miles * not sure haven't gotten there yet
ETA each school also has a website http://www.eastmeadow.k12.ny.us/
Welcome to the neighborhood

Question re: After school programs and bus schedules in east meadow
Oh wow. This is actually deterring me from wanting to move to Nassau County. It seems all of the school districts have the same before/after school program. :( With DH and I both having to be at work in the city between 7am and 8:30am and paying waaaaaay less than $500 a month for after school programs (kids start school at 8am and my current commute is 8 mintues), it doesn't seem like a feasible option compare to the way we have things now. It just sucks because we really want to get out the city. Kinda feeling stuck between a rock and hard place..... But on another note, thank you everyone for your feedback. It has been extremely helpful. We are going back to the drawing board and hopefully can work something out.
