Nice beach maybe north shore?
I see so many people on FB at these calm beaches looking at horseshoe crabs etc. looking to take my kids to the beach tomorrow afternoon. Please recommend a calm, clean beach (I am in town of Hempstead). We usually go to point lookout but the kids don't like the bigger waves.
Someone mentioned bar beach?

North shore beaches are much calmer bc they are on the sound, but beware that most have rocky sand.

Rocks are not an issue. I have been to several but not since I was a child. Looking for a nice one now. They have changed a great deal since then.

Sunken meadow state park has a nice beach (definitely rocky though) with a long boardwalk that goes along the beach and a big playground by they parking area. They charge for entrance though. Not sure how much it is now, maybe $8 or $10? Its exit 53 on the LIE and then follow Sunken Meadow parkway north.

Other than Sunken Meadown, I cannot think of a North Shore Beach that you dont have to be a resident to get into.

If you decide to go to a north shore beach just go to dicks first and get water shoes they are a life saver.
I agree you need to be resident for pretty much all north shore beaches except sunken meadow. I think town of Huntington Beach you can pay a daily fee but I believe it is about $50

Re: Nice beach maybe north shore?
I know for Bayville they would not let me park when we visited my parents because we have an out of state license plate. We drove to my parent's house switched the car seats and then drove back to the beach. It was a PIA. You have to be a resident of the town of Oyster Bay to use some of the bay side of town beaches.
