Selling car on your own
If you are selling you are selling your car on your own, what is the process? I know you put a sign on it, but when someone calls to see it and test drive it, where do you meet them? Do you let them come to your home or what? Do you go in the car with them when they drive it?
Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks.

Selling car on your own
Years ago, like 2005? I tried craigslist with no bites and did a traditional newspaper ad and sold quickly. I lived w my parents and they came there and yes I let him drive it up and down block.

Re: Selling car on your own
I advertised on craigslist I was selling a car. People came to my house to see it. I showed them the features of the car and then my husband went for a test drive with them. He sat in the back.

I haven't sold a car on Craig's List but I've purchased one when I was in college and trying to avoid a car payment. I went to the seller's house to see the car.
Personally, I'd meet in a parking lot or something because you never know who you're meeting with off that site and I wouldn't want anyone knowing where I live but I'm also neurotic. I test drove the car by myself.

I've done the same.
I will note, if you price it right, it will sell fast.
If you price it high, it will sit.
you'll get a lot of people trying to chisel you down over the phone. You will also get a lot of flakey people.
Meeting in a parking lot sounds safe, and it can be..... however, with the number of no-shows, late people etc.... I decided it wasn't worth it.
cars.com has a free limited ad for a month as well, or did last year.

Re: Selling car on your own
My DH just sold our car - he put it up on Craigslist at 10:30 am and it was sold by 10:52 am (22 minutes later!!!!) the man came two hrs later to pick it up! It was insane!
We were just looking to get rid of it so it was WXTREMELY low! I guess that's why!
He didn't even test drive or look at it with too much detail!
I guess he really wanted our 2001 car!

I bought a car from the newspaper years ago. I looked at a few others first. I went to the people's homes (not inside). Some went with me for a test drive and some just gave me the keys. I would do whatever you're comfortable with. One guy kept telling me to bring the car to "my mechanic", but I wasn't interested after seeing the car and didn't have a mechanic, lol. But someone might want to bring it to a mechanic, so think about the circumstances you would allow that. IMO, selling & buying cars is such a pain. We buy cars new now and drive them until they stop running :)

I wouldn't go that route, they will generally buy the car from you for less than what you could sell it for, then they resell it for a profit.
I would just meet somewhere. Used cars that are priced right sell FAST on CL. I've sold two pretty much instantly!
