Joint pain in fingers and weakness
I have noticed lately that my fingers hurt and they seem weak.. I am having a hard time opening packages. My pointer fingers seem to hurt the most. I am not sure when it started. I just started to really notice this past week... What can it be? I have a physical in a couple of weeks but I am trying to figure out what it can be before then.

Re: Joint pain in fingers and weakness
Seems like neuralgia/ neuropathy. Could be related to a cervical spine disc problem, it's pressing on the nerve. Could even be related to carpal tunnel syndrome. Mention it to your PCP. He may refer you to neuro who can perform an EMG/NCV test.

Re: Joint pain in fingers and weakness
It could also be a sign of autoimmune disease. I would ask for blood work to rule out rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, hashimotos, Celiac, etc.

Re: Joint pain in fingers and weakness
I bring up autoimmune disease because I too started having joint pain/weakness in my hands and went to a functional medical doctor. He ran a bunch of bloodwork and my ANA (lupus) screen was positive although my titers were within normal range. This just means that my immune system has been perturbed and a full blown illness like lupus has not yet developed. Good to know because now I can take preventative measures like diet changes, etc.

Joint pain in fingers and weakness
Do you have a child or were around a child recently? Fifths disease in adults give you joint pain. I would check that out too.

I also have positive ANA and have been under a rheumotologists care for years. I do not have lupus but have another autoimmune disease. Many of them overlap so you may want your doctor to rule out other autoimmune diseases with positive ANA...

Re: Joint pain in fingers and weakness
It is classic carpel tunnel... I ended up with more pain the day of my appointment... She did do another round of blood tests to rule out anything else.. Now I just have to get some wrist splints..
