Closing anxiety/Fleeting freak outs

We are closing on a new home in about a month. I have crunched the numbers 3,409,908 times. It's going to be tight for a while but we will have some leftover each month. I keep having thoughts of what if we can't afford the house, that we aren't going to have enough money to live on, that I'm not leaving enough of a cushion, that its going to take forever to rebuild our savings account, we are never going on vacation, what if we need a new car, that any major issue is going to cause us to use our credit card, etc. and I feel like I'm in a constant panic. I try to remind myself that DH and I will both be getting raises soon which will ease our burden but I'm still nervous.

Of course, since I'm the one that handles the finances, DH is off in lala land where he likes to be and does not share in my anxiety whatsoever. He is in a state of excitement every time we talk about the house whereas I have a momentary panic attack.

Is this anxiety normal? I know the remaining "cushion" is all relative to everyone's own situation and lifestyle, but how did you know that you left enough available money?

breathe…..my parents had 5 CENTS left after they bought the house we grew up in-

it's very normal to feel like this

I am in the middle of gutting myself and at first I was is in a panic that I would run out of money - but I say out loud every morning that I have all the money I need to finish the project and put the positive vibe and it relaxes meChat Icon

Closing anxiety/Fleeting freak outs

I am the same way. We closed on our house in May and I had/have the same anxiety. I am always worrying about how can we afford anything, I don't want to use credit cards. We have a small amount in savings but enough if something happens we can cover it. I do not want to touch the savings and am constantly budgeting everything we do. I know this is only for a few years. My kids are in daycare and once they are in regular school we will be saving a lot and then we will be ok. My husband is also in LALA land and never has a clue about finances until I freak out. I know for us a huge saver is bringing lunch every day, eating at home most of the time. We were spending WAY too much on take out during the week and then going out to eat with friends. Try to enjoy the new house and congrats!

Totally normal.

It's always scary to make such a big change and spend so much money. But if you'll have a little left over every month, that's money that can be saved for unexpected purchases, vacations, etc.

Totally normal. We closed on a house 2 months ago and I feel like we haven't stopped spending money since. Yes, you will spend a lot, but it will be worth it.

The one thing I will say is that you cannot count on both of you getting raises. Jobs are not always stable, so just try to live within your means and save as much as possible. "Life" will always happen and you'll deal with that when issues arise. In the meantime - enjoy your new house!

Totally normal!! We bought our home two years ago and left just a small cushion after closing costs and the renovations we did. DH is always cool as a cucumber and I'm the one constantly crunching numbers, making lists, etc. I think just the fact that you are paying such close attention to your finances is a good thing. Everything adjusts and will be fine. Good luck!!

I feel like this every 5 minutes! I'm sure everything will work out, but definitely leave enough of a cushion to cover any emergency expenses and earmark it only for emergencies. I was all over the place getting estimates for a new bathroom when we discovered a hole in our oil tank yesterday. We closed two weeks ago!

Now my bathroom money has become gas conversion money but as upset as I am, when I arranged the garden just the way I wanted it today I got that awesome feeling of "this is MY house" back and remembered it's worth the stress and money.
