I am always looking for feedback so thought I would leave some and hope it will be helpful to others! I thought it was a positive experience and would recommend it if you’re looking for some additional social interaction for your DC.

This summer I had enrolled my DC in Variety’s preschool social skills program in Syosset. The class was every Saturday from 10 – 11:30AM. They are also offering this program in the Fall. The class had one teacher and 2 assistants and about 9-10 kids. The ages varied from 3 ½ - 5 yr old in this class. They divide the classes by skill level and age.

The first half hour is open play – the teachers and assistants join in and monitor the play. The next half hour is split between circle time where the children say hello to each other, sing songs, practice answering questions, etc. and the other half is playing a game, practice turn taking, a group activity, etc. The next 15 minutes is snack time – the school provides the juice/water and crackers/pretzels – or you can bring your own. The last 15 minutes the assistants take the kids out to the school playground or indoor gym in bad weather. Also, during that last 15 minutes, the teacher stays behind while the parents return to the classroom. The teacher reviews what was covered in class and she will answer any questions.

Some parents dropped DC off and came back for the last 15 minutes – while others stayed the whole time and looked through the blinds of the classroom to watch.

I felt at the end of the 5 weeks (summer session is short) the kids were playing together so nicely. You could notice the difference from the first day to the last.

The Fall classes start Saturday 9/13 and run for 10 weeks. The price is $425.
There is also a Teen Group available for $475 and a one hour 3 year old program if there is sufficient registration. That cost is $290.

There are some forms you need to fill out and return also, including a medical form from pediatrician, before the start of the program.
