Those that sew- how did you get started?
I would love to learn how to sew. I want to learn mainly how to make clothing for my dd, maybe pillows, bags, ect..
But im not sure how to start. Did you just go out and buy a sewing machine and figure it out? Did someone teach you? Take a class?
Any recommendations on a good sewing machine for beginners (but im hoping to find something easy to use but also something that will last and not something i will need to upgrade bc it doesnt have the capabilities to do what i want)

sewing is a lot easier than you think. i am angry at myself for not giving it an honest effort sooner.
there are a lot of decent/basic machines for less than $100.
there are a million free youtube videos that can teach you a lot.
places like Joann's have classes all the time, and they almost always have a coupon out there. all you need are the very basics. i would say a one-day class can be enough to set you on the right path.
i had been taught how to sew as a kid, but never did anything with it. i sewed ONE item and that was it. about 30 years later, i decided to give it another try. i picked it up easily.
i've pieced a couple of small quilts and i've made a few small bags. it's been so much fun. i say go for it!

Youtube!! My first item was a pair of ruffle pants for my daughter, hooked ever since. I LOVE sewing!
I have a Brother Project Runway. They sell it at Walmart (my model is a few years older than what they have now). LOVE it, so easy to use!
