Repost from Parenting - Bully on the bus

DS was in a special ed program for preschool and pre-K. He also took summer classes. I have never had any issues with him on the bus since he was 3 bc all the other kids on the bus with him were also in the special ed classes going to school. For kindergarten they felt he tested well enough to be mainstreamed, but in his class he will have a special ed teacher to work with him and still get speech. My point is he's been in small classes with kids like him with several teachers. Now he's on the bus with the mainstream kids as well since that's the direction he's moving in.
He is a pretty passive boy. Very sweet and super friendly. On the bus ride home he sits behind the driver with another little boy. I had a weird feeling about the boy a few times when he had this smirk on his face when I went to take DS off. Today the driver asked me if DS ever said anything about the boy he sits next to. I said he never did. She said to ask bc when DS went to sit with him today he said he didn't want to sit with him. Fine, I get it... kids can be mean. The driver just said it's not nice and we are all nice to each other. I thanked her for looking out for DS. SHe knows him bc she's had him over the summer and knows he's a sweet and gentle boy. Anyway, when I asked DS about the boy he said he was nice and just being silly about telling him he wants to play a game where he wants to fight him till he falls down and cries. I was so upset by this. DS doesn't really get it bc he does have some expressive and receptive delays. I was telling him the difference between mean and nice and he got that part, but kept telling me the boy is nice. Ugh! I am just not ready for this. I know I can't keep him in a bubble, but didn't think kids would be hurtful so fast.
Sorry so long and thanks for listening. I will keep an eye on him and the driver said she would to and can move his seat if needed.

This.

That's so tough when they have no awareness of kids being mean

I'm sure the other moms will have some good advice.

Repost from Parenting - Bully on the bus

If he is sitting behind the bus driver already and the bus driver is looking out for him then I really wouldn't do anything. Not wanting to sit with someone and talking about a game that maybe wasn't explained correctly isn't bullying. DD is still on the mini bus and the kids are always fighting about who is sitting with who and who isn't friends with who anymore. I just explain to her that not everyone can be friends and just to be nice to everyone. If it ever gets physical or they start to make fun of your son repeatedly then that is a different story.
