Newborn photography quotes
Hi -
Just wondering if anyone is willing to share what they paid or were quoted for a newborn shoot and/or maternity shoot.
Wondering what the going rate is and if my quotes are in line....

Newborn photography quotes
Thanks - that is much more reasonable than the two the photographers I looked into. One was $950 plus required to order 50 annoucements. The second was $750 and required the purchase of prints. I thought that was kind of high and was having trouble justifying it...
Who are you using? If you don't mind me asking....
I was hoping to keep it under $500.

I'm paying $550. Paid $500 for the same photographer to do DS1's newborn pics. Got all of them on cd plus a release.

I am possibly going to book with the photographer that did DS's cake smash.
I was quoted at $500 for the shoot with a minimum purchase of $150 for prints.
I just messaged a photographer that I had one a mini shoot with for DS, and she is going to send me her price list.

Those are really great prices! I have been looking into Newborn Shoots and emailed over 10 people and also looked at websites that had prices. The cheapest I found was $350 and the most expensive around $1000.

I think I paid $500 almost 2 years ago but I got a digital download of 75 +images
I will in,y use a photographer if I get my photos on disc or download. I'm not going to have to order through them I want to own them ya know?

This is a personal choice.
When I decided to have photos done, I searched on Craigslist. I found a photographer that had a small portfolio since she was just starting. But the photos were real and I liked her approach. It cost me $150 and I got a disc of all the photos she did that day and about 40 of them were edited. She came to me, brought props, and we had a few different settings. I wanted something unlike the usual newborn photo that I see and my DS was 9 weeks old when we had them done, but that is when he came home from the hospital.
So, if you are looking to save some money this may be an option. I am always seeing posts on FB from photographers that are starting or looking to fill open spaces and reduce their rates.

I would say anything under $400 is someone JSO OR someone who doesn't value what they do OR wants quantity over quality in regards to booking. Now there are newborn minis where decent or great photographers offer a condensed newborn session that you get 10-15 excellent photos to select from oppose to a low cost photographer who gives 30 really crappy ones and maybe 2-3 okay ones and 1 gem if you’re lucky. That is half the price sometimes as their full session pricing. You get typically one setup but if you have a strict budget in mind that might work without sacrificing and getting blue, orange, soft focus images. I keep hearing in several groups that so many cheap photographers banging out on the session a week or two in advance or worse if you go into labor early they pass you off to someone else. Just something to consider when researching photographers (and no I am not a newborn photographer.)

I don't agree with this at all -- I've reached out to numerous photographers to check their availability and all of them came highly recommended from family/friends who used them personally, had a great experience, and ended up with beautiful photographs with multiple props, blankets, and backgrounds -- they are around or under $400. Some photographers with lower prices realize that its not always easy to set aside a ton of money for photographs (sitting fee, session fee, print purchase minimum, etc.) when you just had a baby and will have lots of new expenses. As a result, they price their packages so that they are affordable for everyone, giving people the ability to have their newborn photographed when otherwise they wouldn't be able to because of exorbitant costs.

I disagree too
I know in the case of the photographer who was recommended to me and charges under $400- this isn't her "full time job" and that is why she can afford to be affordable. Also, she said I can have as many 'set ups' as i'd like. And, the person who recommended me to her had an uncooperative baby and she wasn't able to get many shots that day BUT insisted she come back to finish the job at no additional cost...I think people just need to go based on reviews, personal experiences, references, and portfolios.
But to be honest, I am not a photography or an art expert and as long as my baby looks cute, cuddly, the photographer is nice and the pictures are clear - that's enough for me! I have yet to see a newborn picture that I didn't like from any photographers recommended on this site! So maybe I am bad person to ask.... But i'd so much rather put that extra $700 towards something else for the baby like a trip, college fund, or whatever.
To each his own, though :)

I used Jennifer from storybookportraits and she was reasonably priced. I think her prices now are a little over $450.

I agree that under $400 is a little inexpensive for photos, especially with the CD. and Summerlyn I think charges around 300-400 for her session fee, but then you have to choose a print package.
You want to make sure your photographer is insured, and is actually running a business. It is very risky to pick a photography with price being the main focus.
