Buying area rugs

When we first moved into our house I bought 2 cheap area rugs. They have literally been shedding since we got them.

Now that we are doing majoy renovations I want to replace them. I didn't pay much for them so I don't care.

The thing is, I am having such a hard time picking something out. there are thousands of options and I cannot narrow anything down in my mind. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If the shedding is driving you crazy do NOT buy from pottery barn lol! Every single rug I've ever owned from them and PBK as well has shedding for years. I'm talking large wool dust bunnies daily. I take care of them exactly how you are suppose to and it still happens. I've heard the same thing from anyone else I know that owns a PB rug.

I personally love my PB rug...but I have heard what the PP said.

Do NOT buy from overstock. You cannot return them.

I bought my newest area rug from Country Carpet in Syosset. I CANNOTTTTTT recommend them enough!!!! First, the place is insane. Millions of things to choose from. This immediately intimidated me. BUT, I dealt with a woman named Robin who was unreal. Walked me through step by step. And she didn't try to sell me on some insanely expensive rug. In fact, I picked my area rug out of their remnant section at her suggestion.

I'll be honest - with this whole new house process, they have been my favorite vendor I've dealt with. Definitely check them out. I had no idea what I wanted going into the process, but I walked out feeling great about my purchase.

this is good to now! you can pick from remnants and then they bind the edges? because i need a specific size. how would you say their prices are?

Buying area rugs

I just bought 3 area rugs from pottery barn about 3 months ago and I love them. I have had no shedding problems at all and they are holding up really well. I love them!

My sister has bought a through from Home Decorators and she has had good success with them.

I bought a few online from RugsUSA and Home Decorators. Great pricing and surprisingly really good quality. You can search by color, size, shape and material. My other area rugs are from PB and Ethan Allen. Of all the area rugs, IMO PB is the poorest quality.

In re: to selecting, shape, size, and color is the easiest to help narrow down the choices. Then focus on the style (floral, solid, solid with a border , contemporary etc). What I found helpful if I was unsure, was to buy in the smallest size to view pattern and colors then returned for the correct size.

Buying area rugs

I had a custom area rug made from a carpet store. Before I ordered it, they let me bring a few of the sample boards home to see what I liked best in the room it was for. Maybe you can do something like that

Yep! That's what I did. They have a ton of options for binding. They really have a ton at all different price points.

I'm planning on going back for 3 or 4 other rugs.
