Girl name opinion
DH and I are starting to think about names for the twins. If there is a girl in the mix, we want to name her a variation of my mothers name...Ellen. We don't want to use that exact name, seems to "old". Does anyone have any suggestions? We were thinking Ella? Our 2 boys are Jameson and Callum. Our top boy name if the twins are b/g is Daniel. So Daniel and Ella? TIA for any suggestions!

Thanks! I like Ella and Elana as well. We were also thinking of using Ellen as her middle name but the more I think Ella, the more I love it!

There is also Elle, or picking a name that ends in Elle like Michelle or maybe a name like Helen that has elen in it which is pronounced the same?

I like that suggestion! Modernizes it a little bit. Definitely putting that on the list of possibilities.

We recently named out daughter Eleanor. I picked it because I thought it wasn't a popular name but now all I hear is people naming their DD it. 
We had planned to call her Ellie or Elle but DS won't let us. Every time we try and sneak it in, he corrects us and tells us (very sternly) 'her name is Eleanor!"
ETA: I really like Ellen, its so timeless and pretty.

me too!! but I'm partial bc I used to babysit for the cutest little girl named Ellen  at first I was like "really?? ELLEN?? doesn't fit a little girl!!"
BUT its a beautiful, classic name- common enough that everybody knows it, but not overused at all. (Ella I think is getting to be VERY popular!)
and you have to think- shes gonna spend more of her life as an "old" women- not a cute little girl- so you want something that will fit that I say go with Ellen! or Ellyn is a nice way to modernize it!

I honestly think Ellen is beautiful. "Older" and timeless names are really making a comeback. I'd personally stay with the traditional spelling. I'm not big on unconventional spelling.

I like Helena a lot. Ella is cute but to me is a nickname and not a full name. I also think just straight Ellen is nice too.

This. I really dislike made up spellings. Ellen is a lovely name and doesn't need a random Y thrown in.

I love Ellen. Ds has one in his class. My df named her dd Ellen after her mom and pretty much everyone just calls her Ellie. I think both are great.

I like Ellen. I think old names are actually more unique. I have an 'old' name and I'm nearly always the only Veronica for a large group of women.
Spicing up the spelling may be fun too but she'll have to constantly spell it. We were going to sub the I with Y for AJ but decided against it for that reason.
