Giving up!!!

I just feel like giving up on these trying to have a baby I just came back from
Dr. Cohen today for my follow up for my iui I had 2 weeks ago it is negative which sucks he wants to do another iui next month which will be number 3 and if it does not work we have an appt with him on 11/10 to have an ivf consult. Which sucks because in the long run we can not afford to an ivf. I just feel like I am living a bad dream and I just need to wake up and I will be pregnant. I really just don't know what to do anymore especially my hubby just does not understand why we cant just keep doing iui's until it works?

Re: Giving up!!!

Sorry

but it can possibly take a few times, or diff meds etc

Check w your insurnace and see how many you are covered for?

it took us 6 IUI's to get preg- and 4 of them were medicated, 1 was on clomid and 1 was a natural cycle

Maybe ask your doc about diff meds other than clomid. There is Gonal, and endometrin and so many others for diff needs.

Just a suggestion

Re: Giving up!!!

First off Don't give up!! Sometimes it takes a few IUI's to work!
I feel your pain trust me. We are paying for everything out of pocket and my IUI this month didn't work as well. I woke up this am to AF.
If your insurance covers IUI's I would continue doing a few more. You never know!

Don't give up. For us we did 2 ius one with clomid and one with letrozole. When those didn't work we moved on to injectables. Have you tried that yet? We did two of those before moving on to Ivf which the second one worked.

It's a long road, but worth it. Does your dr think you can succeed with iui? Is there a reason why you wouldn't? Sometimes a dr knows with a given diagnosis and couples have no choice but to do Ivf if they can. For us we were unexplained.

Don't give up! If IUIs are covered for you then I would say switch up the meds and try something else. Some people have more success with injects. It all is very unfair and upsetting but many people have success with IUIs.

This road really sucks but I kept at it bc I knew there was a chance I would get pregnant. Make sure you have been tested for everything so you don't waste time and money.

Hang in there.

Re: Giving up!!!

Don't give up! It took me 16 embryos (IVF) but it did happen!! Stay focused, see if you could go on a different protocol and have faith and hope! Good luck to you!

Don't give up!!

IVF worked for me and in the end it's worth it. Not sure if you are using Dr cohen at NS Manhasset but if that's the one North Shore is very expensive especially if you are OOP or have a huge copay. I found RSof Ny to be much more affordable.

Don't give up. The stats on IUIs only give your a slightly better chance then doing it on your own so it many times takes a bunch of IUIs and switching up the meds etc for it to be successful.

Also, It may be worth it to save up for IVF because there is more control over the situation and ups the success rate.

Its a tough process and most times take a while but keep your eye on the prize.

Have you done medicated IUIs? Did you change the protocol? Tried injectables? Had multiple follies for an IUI?

Please don't give up! Sometimes, just knowing you have the IVF consult booked lowers your stress a bit. Do you know how many women have gotten pregnant between their last iui and IVF on their own? Chat Icon Exhaust ALL options... please hang in there and use us to help and inspire you!

I am living proof of this. I had IUIs and went in for my consult for IVF and ended up PG on my own while waiting to start my IVF cycle.

I think there are programs at North Shore that can help you with cost if you are not covered. I didn't have to, my insurance covered two, but I know that they mentioned it many times in my process. Definitely worth looking into. We ended up having to pay some out of pocket costs, but we are getting a refund for services we didn't need to use. We also decided to pay for the FET ourselves, rather then use our second IVF on it. It wasn't that bad, I think it ended up being $2000 when all was said and done. Which isn't cheap, but worth it now that I am 3 months.

I don't know about cost, but Dr. Cohen is really wonderful. I know its frustrating but he will stick with you and give you great advice. I have to say, I know a lot of people high up in the medical field and they all highly recommended him. North Shore might be expensive but its supposed to be one of the best in the country. They were the first to do IVF outside of the original clinic in VA and they have the highest success record. All the doctors are really great too. So if you do have to do IVF your in great hands there. And god forbid you end up like me and have to have surgery, North Shore is definitely the place to be and he is a really highly recommended surgeon.

Re: Giving up!!!

I did two IUI's, which I think is the Fertility Dr's first line of defense. However, if your issue is not motility or timing realated this will probably not work for you. I went to IVF, was a self pay(used 401K funds) and got PG with twins on my first round of IVF. In the end, my tubes were bad so IUI would have never gotten me a successful pregnancy(I had multiple miscarriages and the embryo's would never leav emy tube)
