Hospital visitor reatriction

I am at North Shore right now waiting to have a growth sono. There are signs all over that say they aren't letting visitors under 14 visit patients. I'm so depressed! I understand the risks of the flu and that new crazy virus but its going to be hard to tell my kids they can't see mommy or their baby brother :( I doubt the policy will change in a few weeks time either. And I am having a c section and my doctor keeps me 5 days. Maybe I can beg him to send me home sooner my girlfriend only had to stay 3 days. Well I guess it's good that there is FaceTime! I'm really bummed :(

Re: Hospital visitor reatriction

I didn't go in yet I will ask. Here at north shore there are private rooms now so I hope their is an exception. It's unfortunate my timing of giving birth during flu /virus season lol but it will really hurt both of us. It's such a special time. I will find out. I guess anyone who is giving birth very soon if you could please tell me if this affected you or not.

I thought siblings were allowed, too? I'd call and ask. Usually immediate family is ok.

I am an oddball but I am hoping this is still the restriction in March. I really do not want children to visit me.

Re: Hospital visitor reatriction

I think siblings were but because of this new virus that the children are getting plus flu season starting they have to be cautious? I already read how alot of hospitals put this into effect. My girlfriend just wrote me think of it as a vacation!

I had a c-section at North Shore Manhasset last month -- and had no restrictions at all in terms of visitors, including times and ages. My nieces and nephews came which were ages 4-10 and had no problems at all.

Hospital visitor reatriction

It's because of the enterovirus they placed a restriction - i don't know how flexible they will be.

Re: Hospital visitor reatriction

I know in LIJ they have restrictions for children but allow siblings. When my bosses wife had her baby, I kinda snuck in with DS (no cold or anything) and the nurses let him stay for the few minutes I was there.
I believe these restrictions begin around the start of flu season (now) and go until around April. They will be extra strict now with the enterovirus making it's rounds.

My cousin gave birth at LIJ 4 days ago and her 6yo DS was not allowed to visit. No children allowed as of last week due to the enterovirus (sp?).

Re: Hospital visitor reatriction

I asked my ob at my appointment yesterday. He said he saw the signs and doesn't agree with the policy. He feels it's a time for family. I just have to hope it's lifted in the next few weeks but probably not :(

Re: Hospital visitor reatriction

Someone told me that at least in Huntington Hospital (part of the NSLIJ network), the ban/restriction was lifted this past weekend.

I don't see any updates on the NSLIJ website other than the current visitation restriction.

Anyone know if the ban still exists NSLIJ network wide or has it been lifted across the board?

Hospital visitor reatriction

I'm torn on this--because while I definitely do want our DD to come up to visit her new sibling, we are responsible and wouldn't allow her if she was sick. Sadly, others are not so considerate.

Until everyone has a private room, I don't think its worth the risk of potentially infecting a newborn baby if someone brings in a sick child.

My friend just delivered on Friday at south shore and her ds wasn't allowed.

Has anyone heard anything about Good Sam? I looked on their website but couldn't find any information.

I'm delivering at north shore and I will have my own room. It's just such an emotional time to be separated from all my kids :( so I decided only my mom and dh can come up to hospital. If my kids can't come up to meet their sibling first then everyone else will have to wait!

Re: Hospital visitor reatriction

I work at LIJ and they are strick on saying No kids unless medically necessary. This Enterovirus 68 and the flu are no joke.

It does really stink I feel bad for all the expecting moms.

Re: Hospital visitor reatriction

I have so much anxiety and mixed feelings over this, but mostly because DH and I don't have a gameplan in place. I'm getting a repeat-c too and had only anticipated asking my mom to take off one day from work to watch dd so Dh will be with me for the surgery. The other days I'm in the hospital, Dh would be alone with dd and originally going to just bring her along when he visits the baby and I.

With the restrictions (which I agree are necessary to protect the newborns if that's what has to be done), it would mean Dh wouldn't be able to come to the hospital to spend time with us until after my mom gets off work each night to come and watch dd.

How are those with other kids planning on doing it? I'm a sahm, we have never used a babysitter and neither of our parents have watched dd for longer than a few hours at a time. They all also work and Dh and I aren't comfortable asking them to take multiple days off from their jobs just so he can come to the hospital during the day...

I'm praying the virus gets under control by the end of October in the meantime...

Hospital visitor reatriction

I'm at the hospital now for my growth sono, was called and informed last night no one under 14 years of age allowed in the hospital at all. It's because of the enterovirus.

I have a growth sono and NST scheduled at the hospital tomorrow but haven't received any phone calls. I was going by myself (no DH) so I have no choice but to take DD with me.

Hope they won't give me a hard time. The Women's Center I go to is in the middle of the hospital but not near any patient rooms so I hope we'll be ok.
