Neighborhood advice
Thinking about possibly moving somewhere in Nassau. Which towns are nice, but not crazy expensive to live in? I work in the Bronx and DH goes to Brooklyn, so we're definitely looking for somewhere as close to the city as possible. TIA.

Re: Neighborhood advice
Seaford/Massapequa area.
I do know that there tends to be more demand than supply unless you are willing to go below Merrick Rd.
My SIL who lived a couple blocks North of Sunrise in Seaford had her house on the market for less than a week, and had two offers, one all in cash.
It's been awhile since we looked (we're just over the border in Suffolk) but a lot of the houses in our price range in those towns needed to be completely renovated in order to move in, had no yard, were on corners of busy main streets like Broadway, etc. so be prepared for that too unless you can afford a decent amount. (We were looking to stay in low to mid 300s at the time).
I do believe Seaford also has an express train to and from the city.

All towns mentioned above. I like that part of LI. But we live a little West of there in Oceanside and like it. The only negative is part of Oceanside is parts are pretty far South. So although I'm only three towns west of Queens it takes me about 10 to 15 minutes to get to the nearest highway (other than sunrise). But the plus is, it's close to the beach lol. If you're interested in western Nassau I'd look at Oceanside, Lynbrook, Rockville Center (RVC could get pricey), North Valley Stream or Franklin Square.

Re: Neighborhood advice
All the places listed above are excellent. A few other nice towns, slightly further west, are Floral Park, Williston Park, parts of New Hyde Park / Mineola.

Carle Place. I work in the Bronx and my DH is in Brooklyn. Not bad commute wise.

Re: Neighborhood advice
Lynbrook may be ideal for you. It's not too far from the queens border. I also agree with the suggestions of previous posters!

We love Stewart Manor. Our friends live there and it is so pretty. We have it on our list when we are ready to start looking.

Re: Neighborhood advice
So much depends on budget and what you are looking for. I'd be happy to consult with you about areas that can possibly work, and about what you cash expect to find in your budget in those areas.
I work all over Long Island, but I really know the Merrick to Massapequa area like the back of my hand. I live in N. Bellmore (where my real estate office is) and grew up in Seaford, where my family still lives. Although those towns are similar in many ways, there are nuances to each. I sell houses often in southeast Nassau, but I've also sold homes in other areas mentioned, like Oceanside, Lynbrook, Mineola, Williston Park, etc.
Let me know if you want to discuss things further with me!

Re: Neighborhood advice
I grew up in North Massapequa (Plainedge School District) and it was VERY nice. Cute neighborhoods, good schools, and not a huge district. I knew every single person I graduated with. It's also has really easy access to the parkways and lots of shopping in the area.

Definitely an area closer to a parkway than not. I love Oceanside, but honestly it's such a huge drawback to not have close access. Rockville Centre, Garden City, Mineola, Williston Park, Floral park, Stewart Manor etc. Those are closer for you to drive to BX and BK without a hassle.

It also depends on your definition of "crazy expensive." IMO, all of Nassau is crazy expensive considering what you get for your money and the fact that you are paying some of the highest taxes in the country and most likely living on a lot with a front row view into your neighbors' homes.

I am in Farmingdale. I grew up in Hicksville which is extremely congested and wanted something a little smaller with a nice Main Street with reasonable taxes, Farmingdale was it. We looked at houses in a lot of the areas mentioned in this thread- taxes were a little to high. We got a move in ready house with pretty decently low taxes. Trick is to buy in Town of Oyster Bay. They have generally the lowest taxes in Nassau. Town of North Hemptead, Town of Hempstead- pretty damn high taxes if you ask me.

Thanks all for the responses. DH and I are in the very early stages of looking at places, so this will help to give us something to start with.
