Dental Work---soooo nervous
I had a toothache about two weeks ago so I made an appointment with the dentist. It turned out that a filling broke and then I developed a cavity. I ended up needing a root canal this past Monday. It was so painful and I was so nervous. I had bad stomach pains until the next night(I even went to the Ob to check it out). Almost a week later, the tooth hurts more than before. The dentist thinks the root canal needs to be done again so I made an appointment for Monday with an endodontist. My question is, can this harm my baby? I am so terrified of having an infection in my mouth and worried it will travel to the baby. I am also so nervous the actual procedure can harm the baby. I have been googling but of course I find the doom scenarios. Have any of you been through something similar?

I had work done in my second trimester. I had no issues neither did the baby. I hope you feel better. Don't stress too much.

Me too. Just ask for the special novacaine. Second trimester is best.

The risk of not having the work done is greater than the risk if having it done..just ask for extra novicane, no epinephrine, and it really shouldn't hurt.

I would get it taken care of as soon as you can. The longer you wait, the higher the risk of an infection. That would be my biggest concern. As long as you're up front with the endodontist I'm sure they won't give you anything that can harm the baby. GL!

Get it taken care of....Pre pregnancy I had to get a root canal on an infected tooth. Before the root canal I was in the absolute WORST PAIN EVER. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It was a Saturday night and I was literally making deals with god. No amount of tylenol or pain killers helped. Trust me, you do not want to go through that. I can't even imagine natural child birth being as bad!!! The root canal is no worse than a filling. A local anesthetic won't hurt the baby, an infection can. Do it soon and don't think twice.

Thanks so much everyone. You definitely calmed me down a lot. I hate googling bc those sites make everything awful. I am going tomorrow morning to an endodontist so I am praying he can take this awful pain away.
